After my first ratrod (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=505948) I really want to do another.
I found this great '29 ford (http://tnmcc.com/model.php?id=trottam&fname=29ratrodpickup&membername=Matt+Trotta) and just fell in love with it.
I'll steal most of the mods from this, roof chop, channeled body, shortening the bed, frame mods.
My project will also be flatblack or a mix of satin and flat. I thought about primergrey but black is just the most stylish color for a rat. 'Rust' just isn't a color.
Still haven't desided on the wheels, I did red steelies on the T-bucket so I want something different for this, maybe the chrome wheels from '29 will do.
I already built a lime green '29 pickup (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=382345) and had a blast building it and now I get to have even more fun modding one to a ratrod.

Parts
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/zanthrax/scale/IMG_0110.jpg
Another box of parts, a Dan Fink Speedwagon kit missing it's tires, this will donate it's engine and radiator. Maybe some more parts like the firewall.
I have only started this tonight, till now I have started planning on the roofchop and I did some work on the frame, still need to figure out how to exactly 'Z' a frame and channel a body.

Some progress
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/zanthrax/scale/IMG_0118.jpg
cut of the roof and cut the frame to Z it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/zanthrax/scale/IMG_0120.jpg
And glued and puttied the roof back on.
The cab on the left is the same cab in original height.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/zanthrax/scale/IMG_0123.jpg
Some progress on the frame.
Now it looks bulky but after glueing ittogether it use some sandpaper and putty the get a thinner, rounder shape.
I'm working with bigger inserts to get more surface for the glue to bind.

This is what i like some real traditional hot rods. you can never go wrong with the old style classic never out of date. have you decided the color yet? if not maybe a mix of primers and some rust. give it that lived in look :grinyes:

Sure I'll remove the decklid.
The bed is useless with a hole in it and the lid is only access weight.
I'm painting it flatblack.
I just finished mocking up the frame with suspension and engine. The front bar is allready really low. And the oilpan is also very low. I'll take a pic of my green pickup's front suspension to show how low that is.
Pics of stance when the paint on the wheels and engine has dried.

Out of all the times I have seen this kit on the shelves of model shops and the like and this is the first time I remember actually seeing one going together!
I love that you are building it like a true hotrod also, custom all the WAY!! keep us posted, looks like it's coming along great.

mockup complete body, frame and suspension.
Way higher then i'd hoped it to be. :(
Next step: modifing the suspension.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/zanthrax/scale/IMG_0162.jpg
Front grille on.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/zanthrax/scale/IMG_0164.jpg
Still in doubt, should the grille be straight up or slanted backwards.
The slanted look is really cool but it doesn't really go with the original look of the '29 pickup. What do you guys think?

I would leave the grille straight up and down. slanted doesnt fit with the rest of the truck

Body and chassis is painted, I channeled the body a bit over to have it hang over the frame.
Engine is also modified. I cut off the tranny to put on the kit tranny.
The one from the speedwagon was way to long.
But get the body this low I also cheated on the tranny a bit, I filed the top flat so it now fits under the firewall.
Really crappy pics, flat black does not photograph really well without sunlight and the flash isn't helping.

I'll give it some blackwash to give everything a used look.
When everything is black it takes away to much of the detail and I don't really like the rusty, worn look of some rats.
I've chopped the doors and painted them, but the paint takes an awfull long time to dry. It's ordinairy satin paint in a spraycan I got for 6-7 euros at a paintstore.
The body has dried for 24hours now, it doesn't leave fingerprints when touched but it still feels soft and gives of a heavy paintsmell.

Took some better pics. The toothpick is there to keep the body to the frame, the glue is still drying.
