I recently Purchased an 01 impala LS with the 3.8 and was wondering if anyone would suggest some simple yet very effective MOD's that i could do without spending a fortune. I was already planning on changing the air intake (any ideas on brand) and possibly chipping it (what do you think Ya?? or Na??)and if so best place to get and what i should expect to spend and once again any brand suggstions.

A drop-in aftermarket air filter is a good idea. A step above that is a cold air intake(CAI). "Chipping" a vehicle is out of the question mostly thanks to '96+ OBDII. You now either have to reprogram the PCM, or buy an already reprogrammed one. Exhaust is another good idea because if you increase the intake flow, you really need to increase the exhaust flow. With just a cold air intake and good exhaust, you should see some decent gains in fuel mileage and horsepower.

i thought about changing the exhaust but i dont want to throw away a good one. if mine was rotting away no prob or if i had someone i could sell mine to but why change something that aint broke. and oh ya the air intake on these cars suck so i think of that being broke

well for starters if you want spend $35 on the K&N drop in filter then gut your air box, theres a how-to on www.impalahq.com it will help a lot to get more air into the stock intake. otherwise NAIOA makes a FWI(fender well intake) that is probabaly the best intake out right now, escpecially for the price, any of the CAI's you can buy for like 250+ are going to give you the same performance gain as the NAIOA FWI. go to the link in my signature (click on picture) and go to the forums and SEARCH for naioa fwi. its only 100 shipped.

Thank you very much. come spring i will plan on ordering this. (Money is tight working at a hardware store in winter) I will post what i think.
On another idea, i was wanting to upgrade my stock exhaust but dont know with what or how if possible to make a few bucks off of mine. just for info i live in central MN. going through different forums i noticed that alot of people are just using the kit that GM puts out is that worth a damn, or is there something out there that will give me better bang for my buck.

well take a look at NAIOA, in the forums, look in the engine/exhaust section, and up top there are STICKYS, and there is one for the 3.4 and one for the 3.8, they have a list going of different sites that sell products for the cars, so you can look around for different exhausts and decide what you want. they also have a sticky with exhaust sound clips of members cars, ans what exhaust they used, so you can hear what it sounds like before you buy it. someone on there has the GMPP catback system so you can hear it before you buy it.

seriously, just look around NAIOA, there is a LOT of great information there.
