I need some help figuring out a problem for my '94 Grand Marq. The tails, dash, and the yellow front lights have stopped working (I can rig them to work by pulling the switch out and slowly pushing it in about halfway, but after awhile they start to blink). At first we thought it was the switch and had that replaced - worked fine for about six months then started doing it again. Was going to replace the switch again until we found that the relay had been burnt up - so we replaced the relay and now it has burned up again - any idea as to what would be causing this wire to run so much voltage? If it's a grounding issue, is it a positive or negative ground (red and orange wires)? Could it have anything to do with the Alpine stereo that was installed shortly before we purchased the vehicle? Any insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Specifically what relay and where is it burned?
The switch you replaced was the multi-function switch on the steering column?
The stereo that was installed...how many watts and any BIG amplifier?

I can tell you exactly why they don't work. My car had the exact same problem and the lights worked if I did the exact same thing. I tried replacing the headlight switch located behind the dashboard. It only worked for a short time though. I found out that the wiring connector that plugs in to the switch had burned out one of the wires that goes to the wiring connector. Try putting a new push connector on the bad wire. Be sure to cut the wire up far enough to get a good part of the wire. You should be able to pull the dash apart and wiggle each connector individually to determine which one has the short in it. Mine was bad enough I could visually see which one was bad. Hope this helps a little, I know I was frustrated as hell. The headlight switch sells for just over a hundred dollars in case you were wondering.
