is it possible to properly install a remote starter in a manual and have work just the same as if it were in an automatic?

That is a very good question! With later models coming out with electronically controlled transmissions, both auto and manual, I'd think that it'd be possible, but I want to know for sure just as well!

i think it is but the car must be in neutral and you have to bypass the clutch engage switch with the remote starter. also i would not trust a remote start unless it was factory installed, yet i still not sure of. most of the remote start systems have been making cars run extremely rich and there have also been drivability issues.

why wouldnt you trust one that wasnt factory installed? whats it mean to run rich and issues?

for some reason in quite a few cars, alot being gm, when an aftermarket remote starter has been installed it has caused the car to run with too much fuel and for some odd reason have been having drivability issues. see the car runs rich since the remote starter system has to pretty much run the car since the key is not installed so you have to bypass the ignition wires. with that said, i have also then found out it has caused drivability issues and it was a big problem with 3.8 gm motors. i just dont feel comfortable with a remote starter.

it could have problems. its your car and its your decision. i have heard of this problem with aftermarket remote starters, and i just tend to stay away. it may work fine for 10 people but then the 11th person has issues, and i would always be that 11th person.
but its your car. if you really want it then you can do it. ok i dont know what i was thinking before but yes it is possible to install it. like it said has to be in neutral, clutch engage switch must be linked in with remote starter, and there is also an e brake signal for it. i decided to do some research to help you further.
this website might help you, most likely if you plan to install yourself.

Just FYI, I am currently working on a friends 94 SL2 which had a remote starter installed. Whoever did it (he couldn't or wouldn't tell me more than a local car stereo place) sottered a hot wire from the ignition switch directly to the ignition coils. I've never installed a remote starter/ nor do I want to pretend to know anything about them, but I was very surprised to see this. Anyway, the car is absolutely dead. No electronic response whatsoever. So be aware who installs the remote starter for you. I'm still not done diagnosing this thing. But so far the battery/ alternator/ and starter have bench tested as dead. And I've just finished repairing an assortment of melted wires. May or may not have been related to the remote install.. but yikes be careful who you let work on your car!

well that was stupid. you tap into the ignition switch which powers the starter, not the coils. for a manual transmission you tap into the start wire that runs from the clutch engage switch. i can maybe see melted wires and a fried pcm and electrical components damaged do to such a stupid install.

Yeah I agree. It's still sitting in my garage lifeless since I am also working on a 4x4 project and my buddy is a doofuss. I think he did this himself and won't admit to it. Can someone recomend a service manual that is better than the haynes manual for wiring diagrams? I have one on order but if there is something better I'd like get that too since this looks like a much larger job than fixing a few wires. thanks folks.
