tire pressure monitor system

I recently bought a 2001 Impala. The tire monitor light on the dash came on the other day because one of my tires had lost pressure. No problem, right? Well, now I can't reset it. I've tried the following: With the key in the "acc" position, hold the disp button on the radio until "settings" is displayed. Then, using the seek buttons, select tire monitor and reset it. The only problem is that Tire Mon is not one of the options in my menu. Is it possible that the dealer could have at one point disabled this with his scanner? I've also had suggeastions to try turning the headlights to parking-lights, off, parking lights, off, parking lights within 5 seconds and to simply press a reset switch in the interior fuse panel - but neither of those worked. I can't even find a switch inside my fuse panel...I assume this is because the car is equipped with the RDS. Someone please help - the light is driving me nuts!!

well if your car IS equipped with RDS, it WILL be in the radio, maybe you just overlooked it, I think its like the 3rd option. otherwise the parking lights thing DOES work, most people just acnt get it right away, you have to start the lights on the off(all the way in) then the pull it out/push it in 3 times, and it has to end with the switch being pushed back in. all withing 5 seconds like you said, then you have to turn the car off and when you turn it back on the light should be gone, most people have to try it a couple times.

and the dealeship cant disable it in the radio, nor would they. those are the ONLY two ways to reset it, ive never heard about any switch inside the fuse panel, nor have I ever seena switch insdie the fuse panel.

This Has Be Done With The Radio Off I Believe

Ok, thanks guys. I will try the headlight thing again - should I hear a chime or something that lets me know it worked?

Also, I'm absolutely positive it is not in the list of options in the radio settings. I can select oil life, lock options, interior light options, etc...but no tire mon. I've checked several times, but still no sign of it.

In any case, I'll try again with the parking lamps. I'll let you know what happens.

remember turn to acc, out, in, out, in , out, in within 5 seconds. and it might be within 5 seconds of you turning the car onto acc, and not just the lights. (I use the radio so im not sure) and remember its only the parking lights, not the headlights. it does work, trust me, its just a PITA. good luck

Did you get this fixed? I have the same problem on my 2002 Monte Carlo! Trying to figure out what the problem is...

I just tried this on my car. YES you will hear a beep from the speakers.

make sure you pull the light switch out only 1 click each time.

Was told it was the anti-lock brake module. They cleared low tire pressure light and said if it comes back on again, I'll have to get a new anti-lock brake module. Guess this module controls tire pressure monitoring, anti-lock brake system, and traction control system. All four of my tire pressure monitor were functioning correctly.

One of my friends has a vette that did the same thing. He reset it several times and it wasnt till the dealer reflashed the computer it stayed off. I would have done it for him but the dealer scan tool is the only one that can do it as far as i know. Didn't cost him much, they know it does that. As soon as he said tire monitor they had the answer.

Thanks for the info. If it comes on again, I'll try getting the code removed from the computer again. If it really becomes a nuisance (coming on frequently), I'll try to get a used anti lock brake module, with some type of warranty... Again, thanks!
