Noise in dash

My fiancee's 2001 Saturn SL1 has a really annoying noise coming from inside the dash, from around the instrument cluster area. When we start the car, the starting chime will actually cause whatever the odject is to vibrate and make this noise. Also the "buzzing" is very noticable while driving even smoother roads. Has anyone here had a problem like this? Thanks for the help!

well i would normally say something within the instrument cluster like gears to speedometer or rpms, but im not expert on how electronic speedometer and rpm gauges are made so im not sure if there are gears in there. i never have torn an electrical one open. but too it could be from engine vibrations due to a bad mount. do you feel a bit of rumble coming through the car? something could be loose, what it is i wouldnt know. it is a hard thing to say without actually being there. maybe someone else on here has had a similar problem, i havent and havent heard of a problem. i get a squeak in my car near the middle of dash from metal to metal contact because i bent a piece a little. you really need to centralize the noise and maybe even push on some of the plastic pieces around it to see if maybe its just some loose plastic.

Yea I thought it sounded like loose plastic when I heard it. We were in a drive thru and I did also notice quite a bit of vibration which I am almost certain is the motor mount(s) The car is has 52,000k on it now, it's probably about time to have at least the front one replaced. the typical mount that goes bad is the upper mount on the passenger side of the car. check very closely to the rubber and also puch the top of the engine back to see if you find a rip. with the way that upper mount is made, they always rip. my car use to rumble under a certain rpm due to that mount. its a quick easy fix.

ya, i have a similer problem. i have noise & it sounds like it's comming from the right side vent. i just had a service bulletin done there. it's bulletin# 01-t-31 loss of air flow through right site vent & rattle. they pull off that end cap & install some kind of steel retaining clip in the vent passage or something to stop the rattle & hold something in place according to the bulletin. the rattle is gone, but now i have this annoying high pitched noise at approx 2000 rpm of the engine. it does not matter if i'm driving, or just stopped & revving the engine to that rpm. it sounds like a slight vibration like something rubbing together at high velocity, like a buzzing sound only at those certain rpm's. could that retaining clip be rubbing up against something causing this? does anybody here have any expertise about what i'm talking about, or that specific service bulletin? this noise is very annoying & gets loud sometimes & i can hear it over the radio at times. what's interesting is it only starts when the interior warms up. i didn't have this noise before that bulletin was done, but i did have a commom loud rattle at times which is now gone...
