Can I install a CD player?

I have a '96 Sable and would love to install a CD player. Has anyone done this? The console area is that round unit that has all radio controls spread out as well as temp controls. Is there an after-market CD player by Mercury that fits here and takes the place of the tape player? Or one that is adaptable to this set-up? Or am I stuck with the portable cd player with tape player adapter in order to get cd music in the car??
