Our 2001 Windstar pops & misses on 1 cyl.

Hello, We have put about $1500.00 in to our Windstar since November 25th. The problem is still not fixed. We had a local shop change the upper intake manifold gasket, spark plugs & wires, fuel filter, & all 6 fuel injectors. The fuel injectors were done after they had sent it home and it stared doing the same thing. The van misses up hills and pops. It also misses around 40-55mph on the freeway. The mechanics say it is cylinder #3 that is the bad boy.
We got frustrated with no success and took the van to Ford. Ford said lower intake was full of carbon. We then took the van back to the original shop with the Ford diagnostic in hand. They cleaned the lower intake and replaced gaskets, etc. at no charge to us. Ford wanted 677.00 to do that.
Still No change. Any ideas ? We are ready to drive this van off a cliff.
Could it be the coil pack ?
Thanks in advance,
Ryan E.

I'd ask the original shop for $677 of my money back and then pay Ford to do it right.
But first, can you go by some aftermarket outfit (such as AutoZone) and get the alpha-numeric code in hand? Even a little knowledge is a powerful thing.

As 12oz indicated, the code would be helpful.
It could be the coil pack...it could be cracked or burnt around cyl 3. You can pull it and inspect around the connectors for cracks and discoloration. You can check the primary and secondary resistances - procedure is spelled out in Haynes (I think that was where I read it). If it looks good and the resistances are within specs, I wouldn't waste $80 - $120 on a new one. One time I went to Autozone and had them pull one for my 98 windstar and I checked the resistances on it versus mine - no significant differences, so I didn't bother changing it. I looked elsewhere - my misfire was plugged EGR ports.
