vcr/dvd swap

Does or has anyone replaced the OEM vcr with a dvd player and if so, do the connections need an adapter? Thanks. My vcr is inop and want to replace it with a dvd that can fit in the console.

I saw a Ford Windstar overhead screen on ebay recently and contacted Crutchfield to ask if they sold an adapter for their standard DVD players that would connect to the OEM screen. No luck, no adapters available.
