99 Ford Windstar -Sliding Door Problem

The doors seem to have a roller that must be missing or flat because it takes a significant amount of effort to open and close either side door. Any ideas and should I tackle the repair or should I take it in?

First things first, have you cleaned and lubricated all the moving parts? From your profile dust and dirt won't be a big problem, but the humidity in your part of the country can create a really nice sticky goo on rollers, axles, cams, etc. in the door mechanism. Good luck.

Any suggestions on type of cleaning agents to use....mineral spirits? I will assume that the same grease I use in my home garage door would fit the bill for lubrication! Thanks, Jim

Turned out the battery was getting old and tired, not unlike myself, and installing a fresh battery helped correct the sliding door problem.

Just a thought.
