1997 sable won't shift from park

I have done a couple of searches here and in the Taurus section and have nailed my problem down to a faulty brake light switch. My only questions are where can I get this part other than the Ford dealer (www.car-part.com does not seem to list it) and how much would it be? Also where is this located? I noticed the 2000 recall for the Sable's with adjustable pedals, but I do not have that in my 1997.

autozone lists a brakelight switch for a 97 sable on their website. $8.49

Thank you Kim. It was actually $6.99 here in my area. I really thought this part would have been more. Amazing that a cheap part like this can stop a car from working properly.

Its for a park interlock switch; you can't take it out of park without the brake on.

If you have to, turn the key one click and then put it in neurtral then start.

I've gone thru 3 brake light switches over the last 18 months in my 98 Sable. The last time it happened it also blew a fuse and I couldn't use the ignition trick. When I asked one ford garage what could be causing the it to go thru brake light switches like that, he said that the switches used in them are junk. Guess I'll start carrying a few extras in the glove box.

Hello!
Can you recall which fuse blew when you installed the new Brake Switch? I'm having the same problem after replacing the switch. All fuses LOOK like they're ok, but some - like relays - are opaque. Did you have any trouble with relays?
My interior lights, radio, wipers, power mirrors, etc. are all affected by this.

Thanks! :)
