I have a 98 windstar 3.8 with a squeel internal in engine, i sounds like a belt squeel but i ran it without the belt on to exclude all pullys and it is around the water pump area, without the belt there was nothing turning but the crank shaft, please help

Since you've checked for the drivebelt noise and taken it off and still have it then.. It's a Windstar.. welcome to our nightmares!!! Steering pump possibly But, you ran it without the serpentine belt you said.. water pump area internal..hmmm the shaft bearing most likely then.. If you think there is bearing wear in the pump try grabbing the water pump pulley and try to force it up or down or side to side (since you have the drive belt off anyways) If the pulley can be moved vertically or horizontally the bearings almost gone and you need to change the pump ASAP. Also, check if there is coolant leaking from the weep hole on the snout part of the pump and you may need a mirror to see up under it..depending on location. If it's leaking the shaft bearing is soon to follow << the seal that has gone/deteriorated, protects the impeller from coolant and it will weep out before damage to the shaft and impeller .. Good luck

new water pump, the only thing turning was the crank, still have prob

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS) drive shaft is a likely cause. The CPS is all that is left of the distributor. It has a shaft that goes down to the camshaft. There is a gear on the end of that shaft....which mates with a gear on the camshaft. At the top of the shaft....is the CPS...which is just a magnetic pickup....which sends an electrical signal to the PCM....telling it when the camshaft is at cylinder #1. The CPS is very easy to remove.....just 2 little screws and an electrical connection and the CPS lifts right off the top of the shaft....and the shaft is still held in....in the correct position. However....the noise is usually caused by the bearings on the shaft....not the CPS itself.

Do a search on Camshaft Sensor...and you will see how others have solved the squeel noise that it can make. I have not had this problem.....so getting it first hand would be best. Only thing that I will mention.....you do NOT want to loose the position that the shaft is in relative to the camshaft.....or you will have to get it back into position.....which can be a pain from what others have posted. Others have managed to get some lubrication (oil) down in there without disturbing the position.
