I have had two power steering pumps installed, but both have failed within 24 hours. It is fine leaving the shop, but the power steering problems reappear within 24 hours. Any advice?

Try installing a inline filter in the fluid return line to the pump.
Make sure that they put Mercon ATF in for power steering fluid.
I bought a Magnefine filter (under the ATP brand name). I think that you will need the 3/8" size for your power steering.
Rebuilt pumps usually come with an advisory to install and inline filter...as particles in the system can cause the new pump to fail. The inside of the rubber hoses can be flaking off.....causing crud in the new, clean, fluid.
