Carbon on Head and Intake

I removed the intake manifold from the head and notice carbon build-up in the head passage a well as in the intake manifold runners. Is this normal for the saturn and what would cause this. Also what's a good carbon remover?

its normal on all cars. throttle bodys build up with carbon on every car so the intake is going to have the same. i believe it comes from the pcv and egr systems.

also just use carb-n-choke to remove the crap. its been built up for a long time then all of it isnt going to come off.
