My photo hosting account is getting a lot of traffic, so I thought I'd start another thread to continue showing the progress and save some bandwidth.
I will continue hosting the earlier pictures so the "Blue Seven (Parts)" thread stays alive for those who wish to see it, but I will post the new parts in this thread... - Mark

It great to see awesome model being built, it's sad to look at my own model after that :D
Can't wait to see the update!!! :)

Over a dozen machined parts, I lost count...
The gauge has a needle, and a lens.
The blow off valve is bronze and aluminum, the safety cable was wound from some very fine wire.
Note the 7 faceted knob, (it is my Seventh Super Seven), and locking hardware too.
Made the decals, of course... - Mark

yea, i can relate. Scale-Master, your work is on such a higher plane of existance then what i could ever hope to do. i have been working on my carbs all nite and after seeing your beautiful outstanding work i may as well put 2 grapes on top of my blower. i still have yet to see your original thread and just waiting for the pics and also i have dial up so sometimes i avoid long threads but from what i seen so far, i should quit models and do something im good at, like shovelling snow! lol. beautiful work. you are an artist.

You really make me what to quit this hobby :)
What do you use for gluing the aluminium part together ? CA, 2 part Epoxy etc ?
I would love to see a photo of your workshop area, any chance ?

I hope you all are just kidding, as I've said before, I certainly don't want other builders to be discouraged by my work, rather I hope it just goes to show that it can be done.

Usually CA, occasionally 5 minute epoxy.
I would love to see a photo of your workshop area, any chance ?
Not likely, no offense. It's nothing special, probably like most builders caves. But it is my refuge... - Mark

I love reading these threads, any threads where the builder is better than me, whether it's by just a bit or by lightyears (like this). It might make what I put together right now look like silly lumps of plastic, but the idea is one day I might be half as good as this, and that really sticks me to it. If I didn't start with an orange-peeled, not cleared, no window rubber painted hunk of plastic, I wouldn't be building what I build now; and without what I'm building now, there's no way I'd get up to Scale-Master's or Robrex's or Skylinefan's skill level either.

Mark, your work is continually inspiring. Everytime you post your progress, raising the bar, it makes me push myself to make my stuff better than before. Each post makes me strive to make myself a better modeler. Yes, it is a little sorrow to blow us out of the water, but hopefully I will reach 1/2 of your talent someday far down the road.
Truelly and unexplainably amazing. I've read up on your past Super Sevens, and it is stunning how you continue to top yourself each time.

awesome work. I hope that no one is serious in their comments of discouragement. It requires lots of skill, experience and the right tools to turn out the parts that you are making here. It should merely make us all strive to build better models! I know that it has inspired me.

You nailed it on the head wouter, I really hope no one really means it when they say I have discouraged them from building. Even as a joke it is wearing thin.

You got that right godfather. My wife is very important to me in so many ways. We've been together one week shy of fifteen awesome years today. She is the sweetest and most supportive wife, (hey, I am biased here).
She even "demanded" I put up showcases in our living room for my models a couple years ago.
She knew nothing of models when we met, now she builds occasionally, (her forte is painting bodies, an airbrush natural), and has quite the critical eye, (much to my dismay since she critiques my work before it's done). Not that she fully understands why I build what I do, but no matter what, she is positive and supportive of modeling... And she's cute too! - Mark

You are both lucky, Scale-Master and Hiroboy. My wife is not as easy going as I would've hoped about my modeling. In fact, last month she destroyed two of my 1:24 Porsches, and now I have to fix them.
The skills and quality of work both of you display here really make me try to build better models, It's inspiration, very positive.
Scale-Master, your model is going to be beyond mindblowing when it's finished, as the build you show here is.

This is one of the builds that has got me wanting to build very badly but finding the time nowadays is the hard part:(. Aftrt some recent events, my wife is now very supportive of my building because she knows how much I enjoy it.:) I will probably never get close to building at the level demonstrated by Steve and Mark and a whole lot of others here and elsewhere in the model-world but I still enjoy it as much now as I ever have and I will always try to come up with something at least presentable to the rest of the world!:sunglasse (even though I "build for myself because nobody else matters") Keep up the awesomeness Mark!:sunglasse

Amazing, every part of this model looks so realistic.
I would love to see this (and your other's) model in person! But I live in NZ.
I'm glad you have an understanding wife, my fiance is great aswell. Although she does'nt understand how I get so excieted about little plastic cars, she does understand the skill and patience that goes into them. She's even having a go at building one herself. (I'm helping of course)
So It's great to have someone who gives an outside opinion on my work.
keep up the amazing work, I still can't believe that alternator is not a real one!

i find this so impiring, i keep telling myself that one day i'll be able to do this (hopefully) i can design stuff but that's nothing compared to making it.
scale-master, you've ever inspired me to go and buy a lathe and milling machine, i dont know how i'll afford it after i buy it, where i'll put it or how to use it. but im sure i'll learn.
when it comes to the time when i embark on my next project im sure i'll think back to myself and remember seeing this and knowing it's the sole inspiration for machining everything myself. so thank you. and keep up the good work.

Probably less than 10 more parts to make for this assembly, (not all are are shown)... Stay tuned... - Mark

Spectacular work as always. A terrific inspiration for what can be done in scale modeling!
So, do you have the rotary table positions for 360/7 memorized by now?
What's the smallest size end mill you're using to cut these parts? (Or do you have some other more clever cutting method I haven't figured out yet?) :sly:
And what may I ask are you using for reference material? Got one in your garage you're pouring over? I'm considering doing the 1/24 Tamiya, updated to series three, LHD and cycle fender, with as much unnecissary machined aluminum as I can squeeze into it. I've found enough on the web to inspire me, but not really enough to detail a build. Any suggestions of where to turn?

I have a friend who built one at the same time I was building the red BDR, a wealth of information there, I still ask him for detail info when I can't find it elsewhere. Plus the internet has many Super 7 sites with helpful people that have sent me info. And most of my friends ply me with anything 7 they come across. There are many good books with lots of pictures, some are rather old, but the pictures stay true.
The stuff that is not usually on a Super 7, (like the nitrous system for example), comes from my mechanical background as to how it would logically be done (and I studied up beforehand with a friend who specializes in it at Edelbrock so I made sure I chose an appropriate system). I did pour over one a couple days ago at the L.A. Auto show too... Like any subject, if you dig enough you can find what you need. Also check out a manual for the 1300 engine it uses, look for pictures of Webers and other part manufacturers, that will help you with detailing the engine and bay immensely.
I recently did a LHD conversion to the 1/24 kit. (Rotus, I posted it in the Street and Show section here if you want to read the text, below are the pictures. For some reason they are not linked to the original thread anymore.) I swapped the footwells and just flipped the dash and made a new face for it. Not a difficult conversion, but again, this was a simple, relatively "quickie" build too...

Finished! Still a couple parts need to be final detail painted, but I'll take care of that after I take it off and before the final assembly, it's just set up to check the alignment of the brackets so the belt will track correctly.
44 individual scratchbuilt parts by my count and 4 custom made decals.
Phew, that was fun, now on to other parts... - Mark

is that the stock block color
No, but it's not stock either... Should be red from the factory, but this one represents a non-factory built car. - Mark

Increible work Mark. I was browsing your photobucket and showed the pics to my Dad who was a mechanical engineer, and he was stunned. He thought for sure you were using an upscaled ruler.
I hope you're keeping tally of how many individual scratchbuilt parts there are so you can give us a count when you finish.

I can honestly not see how you can improve on this level.. it just seems real... I think when it's finished we'll see that you can press the starter button and the engine will start running.....
