on models such as the CR5 where you have cables running through the interior and they are molded onto the floor pan and very hard to paint well. what do you guy's do. I had thought about sanding them away and replacing them with "real" cables but this has it's problems too. does anyone have a well practiced method.

Well you already hit on one way. Also that's probably the best in terms of realism etc.
Another way is to mask them off and paint them. Not very easy and sometimes "fiddly" but very do-able.
A way I tried on my Boxster (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=417338) and Morris Mini (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=414380) as a compromise method was to use wire and solder glue next to the molded in wiring. Very amateurish I suppose :uhoh: , but I was quite happy with the results :iceslolan
Lastly, you can use the "ostrich" strategy, and pretend they aren't there :)
