I have a problem with my impala, not everytime but sometimes when I try to start it, it starts but the ignition keeps turning for a few seconds after the engine starts. I took it to the dealership and they said that was normal on impala's. They actually said and I have it on paper that and I quote "This is normal operation once the key is turned the main computer takes over operation of starting the car" So is this normal or not is my question. Thanks

Starter relay keeps the starter engaged a split second longer than we are used to compared to the old solenoid key only system, annoying though.

that could be that the starter has a weak return spring on the gear that engages the flywheel. It has been known to happen to cars and then the starter burns out.....

it sounds normal to me.

the starter will keep spinning untill the engine starts, and once the comp gets the signal thatt the engine started, it will retract the starter. the feature is mainly there to prevent stupid people from ruining the starter.
