First Kill...

Well, now i know why down modded civics so much, they are slow as hell. I'm in my new 02' gti 1.8t (stock 180hp, love it) ive got three 200lbs guys crammed in my car when i decide to look for a race, first thing i find is a modded civic, i get right next to him (were going about 40) then blow by him, he tries to catch up but i toy with him. Then he gets desperate, he slows down so that he is nearly 100ft behind me then uses all that space to get speed and blow by me using the turning lane to get around the cars i was pinned behind. Well, i drop it in second and catch him in 3sec weaving passed cars...then he gives up... but i was surprised how my car pulled with that much extra weight..considering is only 4 cylinders..

haha gotta love the ricer fly bys. Then they say they killed you at high speeds with VTEC.

the older civics w/ sohc vtec should run in around 17 or less seconds, the 99-00 SI's should run low 16s to mid-15's and the new SI's should run high 14's since they have almost 200whp now

Low 15's is nothing to brag about. My Prelude does low 15's and I'm not delusional so I don't brag about it. If I were to cam and chip it I'd be pushing 230hp, but I'm not a ricer so I don't brag about things I haven't yet done to my car.

three 200 lbs guys = 600 lbs, plus you, thats like what, almost 800 lbs or so? and you're car is not the lightest compare to the civic, the earlier ones are only around 2,200 lbs, and the ex rated 130 hp and you said it wasn't stock, so what....140-145 hp-ish?? so now you only have like 35 hp on him, you car is what, about 2700-2800 or so? plus your 800 added weight, and thats around a heavy 3,600 lbs right there, and 3,600 minus his light 2,200 car is a 1,400 lbs difference, think about it......i dont think he was trying to race you, unless you're talking about a different civic model that i mentioned above

well i know my 240 is no luxery car, but atleast i know i don't have alot of manufacturer's recall for electrical problems like windows not wanting to go up or down, and interiors that breaks apart like nothing, or gauges not work etc. ( pure audi, vw goodness )

hey man whats with teh whole 4000 lb mustang commet really my car is very close to what your VW weighs in relativity my 1987 Mustang only weighs 3300 lbs. If you had a VR6 it woudl be pretty much identical would it not? Teh curb weight on a 1.8 T is a hair over 2800 lbs, pretty close considering my babys got the torque to pull that kinda weight.

TatII Is right Buddy I work for Audi/Vw roadside those things break for the dumbest reasons.. And u better not have and automatic cuz then I guarandamntee you that you will get the transmission stuck in park! and the EPC light is gonna pop up!

I'll admit 3 200lb. dudes is a lot of weight to pull, even in motion. Hell, I can feel the difference with a 200lb. person in the passenger seat of my crx. But Civics aren't very fast unless they're seriously modded like Ace$nypers. There are some Civic and CRX owners on AF that would embarrass some people but they don't brag about it...

My brother has a Passat with under 60K miles. He just bought it a couple of months ago used and it's been sitting in the driveway for the last week because of a problem that was "fixed" by VW a couple of weeks before that.

Not ALL VWs are that unreliable, but they sure as hell are known for breaking down a lot.

The key is to find a reliable mechanic who will not rape you. And never never never go to the dealership for service. They try to charge $100 for a stock paper air filter and winshield wipers.

i work valet on teh side and the majority of the crappiest car's i've ever driven are vw's. 8 out of 10 vw's are messed up in one way or another. and i drive about 30 vw's a week. so that gives you an idea.

I have a number of friends that swear by VW powertrains. A well maintained VW 2.0L, 1.8t, or VR6 will last you a long time. Not by Honda/Toyota standards, but they generally do pretty well in my experience. What do go wrong alot in VWs are little electronic and mechanical things like door handles/lock not working right or the little onboard computer screen in the mkIVs not working.

To the GTI owner- why isn't your car chipped? the 1.8t is screaming for it.
