93 Sable - irratic run speed

Car just started to sporadially run rough at times. It is worse on the highway. Changed plugs,wires,rotar and cap. Still rough !! Had the car scanned and they say that the Oxygen Sensors are bad. Other people state that this will not make it run that rough only reduce gas mileage.

If I was getting a code for a problem, I would take care of that issue first then see how much better the car runs. But if I got a code for an oxygen sensor, I don't just get a new one. I first check the wires to the sensor to make sure they aren't the problem. Then I will go to the library and lookup the code in the repair manuals there. Sometimes there is a reference to a related part causing the problem, or the proper procedure to test the sensor with a voltage/ohm meter, or similar testing device. Now, what came to my mind when you said it gets worse as you go faster, and the ox sensors are coding, is that maybe there is a exhaust restriction? Maybe the catalytic converter is shot? I dunno, hard to diagnose it in Indiana when the car is in Wisconsin from just a couple lines in a post about the problem. Hope this is some help.
