Larger fuel pump screen??

I am replacing the fuel pump on my '99. I plan to put the tank back in place tomorrow. I'm doing this as a maintenance action ... mostly to replace the fuel pump inlet screen ... "just in case".

I was surprised that such a large fuel tank had such a small pump inlet screen. I'm guessing 4 sq inches of filter area ... or less.

Has anyone out there replaced the fuel pump inlet screen with one that is larger than the OEM version? Do you have some reference info?
