electrical problem,turns over 95 sl2,brain?

First time in a forum,try not to be a pain. Bought my son a 95 sl2 that I took as a trade in.Car started just fine for a week before I took it home. The day I drove it home had to put a battery in it. I noticed no dashlights. Car started 2-3 times until wife put a tester to the fuses. Now no start. Turns over just fine. I had someone much more mechanical than myself work on it.replaced fuel pump, crank sensor, relays, coil,ignition control?.
The car has started once. for about a hour . When depressing brake , door chimes, front paking brake comes on. Radio flickers with without key in ignition. Noticed a few wires under sterring column have electrical tape.Hooked a e-z scan 6000 to it and reads vehicle not responding.
If anyone could help me finish my sons 16 birthday present I would be very thankfull.80k on miles nice looking car.I own for about 1200 now should I stop while I am ahead?

you have some sort of a cross short. possiblely a bad ground. check ALL fuses VISUALLY. taillights are a common source of cross shorts. isolate those circuits, there are two connectiors in the trunk with 5 wires each. in front of the tail light assemblys behind the carpet. disconnect them and see if it effects your problem. a cross short causing a parasidic drain can also kill a battery. besides these checks, a more indepth electrical dignositic is needed.

thanks for the help. I tried disconnecting the wires , also took stereo out.before trying to start. no go. a stereo wire looked melted and a harness as well?
