Hello
I am new here
I have 98 SL2 Auto Transmission. 166K (KMS not MILES)
I recently had the tranny serviced (new filter, fluid, whatever else they do), and regularly get oil changed etc.
I have noticed last few days that once the car is warmed up, when I am accelerating the engine seems to be hesitating...I can feel it almost shaking as I am accelerating. Does not happen ALL the time, is worse if travelling up hill.
I have bought new spark plugs and will put them in ASAP. Any other suggestions, ideas?
Also - I love my car but have noticed the brakes always feel soft and when I am slowing down I can feel the brakes....not knocking or anything, but almost like the brake pads are warped or something, but when I have had brakes checked they are fine.
I welcome any ideas. Thanks

Welcome o the forum. I guess that is around 100,000 miles. Definitely change the plugs. Ngks or ac delcos are my favorite. No platinum plugs.I would recommend some pm at this mileage.
Air filter
fuel filter
pcv valve OEM only
check the cam/valve cove gasket for leaks. When you pull the plugs are the wire boots oil soaked. If so replace gasket
replace the coolant temperature sensor with the updated brass tip design from saturn if it has not been done already
clean the throttle body,IAC valve and port, EGR valve and port.
Spongy brakes need to be bled. If you feel a pulsation in the pedal as it is applied the rotors need to be replaced or machined.

I am experiencing very similar problems. My 2001 SL1 sometimes shakes terribly when I am accelerating. Once I get to speed, everything is fine. When I am at a stop every so often the car will surge a little bit (100 rpm's or so). Never when I am slowing down, just when accelerating. My SES light came on just yesterday but I noticed that it flashed when the engine went above 3000 rpm's.
However, this morning I went to fill my car up with gas. The light was on, I had the surges and everything, filled the car up with premium (usually use regular), started the car and the SES light went off and no more surging.
Should I follow the same pm? The car is at 91 almost 92,000 miles.

My 97 sl1 has the same tranny, brake, surge, not to mention the exterior lights short out all the power when they feel nessecary. I have just about had it with the little shimmy that couldn't. It has been a great car but after 150,000 miles it needs a complete overhaul. any ideas about cheap(QUIKFIX) ways to get the last few miles out of her

My 96SC2 has 130,000 miles. Some minor quirks but all an all not bad. Maintenece will help keep the engine smoth. I need to replace some motor mounts to get the buzz out yet but am looking forward to the next 100,000 miles.
