'06 Impala?? WHAT??

Ok, sorry if this has been discussed already and is old news..(i'm new here!) but what the heck is the '06 Impala supposed to be? The new LUMINA? Maybe the new CORSICA??? Not no impala where I came from. BOO chevy. Bad move there. Let's see, let's bring back the Lumina and give it some honda tail lights, and call it the Impala. That's as bad a move as what they did to the Monte Carlo SS's from the late '80's by making them into a glorified Lumina in the early 90's. Ok, I'll get off the lumina kick. But it still looks like some kinda Honda or something. I guess the '00-'05s were a disgrace from the muscle car of the 70's too. And I'm just a different generation preferring the past. Any thoughts?

first off i agree about the 06 im not likin it either

but LET me give you some advice on the 00-05's and even the 06

it is the first Impala to be it's OWN CAR it does not share any sheet metal with any other GM car like the 60's 70's and 80's even in the 90's the impala was a juiced up Caprice

so just give thata thought for a few moments

I agree, I have given that a thoght for a few years actually. Just that it had a definite chevy ring to it, not that it shared anything. As unique by itself as the vette, just a tame little brother.
But I will say that chevy's decision to model after the European import line is less than desireable in the '06 impala to true chevrolet fans. But everything new takes a little getting used to. I for one will treasure the 00-05's as I do the '84-'88 Monte Carlo SS as a style in its own that will never live again.

Yeah, maybe so. I think it looks shorter, a little bit Honda, and a lotta grandma all thrown in to one package! Oh well, that's why someone else gets paid the big bucks to engineer new designs, so guys like us can complain about it while they enjoy their $120,000/year. I'll keep my '03.

I think you guys are missing the idea here. First off, you need to go drive an '06 SS. It is like no other car I have ever driven in. Secondly, GM may be taking the path of stealing or should I say "luring" customers away from Acura and Corolla. They should be able to do it with this car. It may not look like the car you used to know, but I am sure it rides better and has some get up and go like you may remember. Don't knock it til you try it. You owe it to yourself to go drive one.

Well, hopefully it drives better, for a pricetag of $28,000 and 100 MORE horsepower than the 00-05's.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not downgrading the car itself, just the euro-styling GM put on it. Yeah, it'll probly knock your socks off-that goes without saying. BUT in reality 55 mph drives the same wether you have a 5.3L like the '06 SS, or a 3.8L. And accelaration really just costs you gas, not really sure if it actaully benfits you unless you want to try to impress other people or something. (Remarkable though is the fact that they rate the 5.3L at 28mpg...not much less than the 3.8L, THAT is an improvement to the lineup for sure! Just wonder if it'll be as dependable as the old 3800 ?)

I just don't see it as an improvement in the styling, that's all. I'm sure (like I stated in the first post) that it's just that I prefer the 00-05 body, just like fans of the 60's-70's impalas thought the 90's and 2000's styles were rediculous. Some people don't like change. I guess for this topic I'm one of them.

But, yeah, helluva car though -the '06.

I used to drive an olds intrigue too. A '99. Great car. Loved every minute of owning it...nice suspension, cornering, decent mileage for the tranny it had. Started having tranny hiccups around 120,000 miles. If you're not there yet, beware! Hated to trade it in, but I didn't want to risk costly repairs once it reached the 'senior citizen' stage. And yeah, they have a nice look about 'em. Especially the ones with the rear spoiler. Good luck, hope you keep her a while. (the intrigue). Your fiance too...http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/#

the only way the 5.3 liter gets 28 mpg is probably when it's using that displacement on demand thing. It wouldn't suprize me if they rated the gas mileage on that just to get people to buy it. But I could be wrong...

100 more HP is for the SS model only, Easily can be said %90 of the Impala's WONT be the SS's. Its still FWD only, thats a big dissapointment for being Chevrolets 'flagship sedan'. Its really in need of RWD and/or AWD options to be more on par with competitors. Style is lacking I think, I guess not everyone wants 'bolder' styling like Dodge/Chrysler have been doing lately. (Which I whole-heartedly support, soapbox's everywhere gets boring)

I like good change, 28 mpg V8 is good. A car that looks like everything else on the road, not good. :disappoin

Going against the grain here, but looks like a pretty decent four door sedan at a reasonable price. If the quality is there, and time will tell, and the dealers decide to give decent service people will buy it.
