2002 SL Temperature Sensor

11-06-2005, 04:04 PM
I just took my car in and was told the temperature sensor was cracked. They wanted to charge me $148 to fix it. Can someone tell me if this is a somewhat easy thing to fix?

Also, now that my car is 4 years old, I would like to buy a repair manual to help for the little jobs. Any recommendation on the best one?

The older SL1 sensors would crack, the newer ones are suppose to be an up-grade. The old style are $8.00 at any parts store, the new OEM is $20 at Saturn's parts department. They're real easy to change. Seeing that you have a 2002, you've got the new ECTS all ready in your car. The new ones aren't suppose to crack. Why did you take your car in for service?

I took it in for the FREE owner appreciation days that offered a free oil change and free vehicle inspection. So, I am not experiencing any problems (except for my brakes). If you don't think it should crack, I am not going to worry about it. Thanks for the info.

Hum, I wonder how many sensor jobs your appreciative dealer sold with that free oil change?
