oil filters...

i was talking to some friends of mine that say FRAM filters are crap.. so i was wondering, what does everyone use in their saturn?

ive been using Fram Duraguard - any comments?

Fram are just more expensive. I would recommend STP, just because this way you can buy an oil filter cap, which will make the job of replacement of oill filter so easy.

almost anything besides Honeywell er..aahhhh.....Fram filters. go to a parts store, grab a fram and any other filter, which one is heavyier?

so i just did an oil change with a Fram DuraGuard, and that site says there just complete junk.. should i worry about it this time? or just never use them again.. like ive got about 200kms on this oil change and its 100% synthetic, i really dont want to drain all my oil to replace a filter! or are they so crap that i should rip it out of my car and throw it back through the canadian tire front window in disgust that they would carry such a disgraftul excuse for an oil filter?

no just get a better one next time. i use all Mobil 1 stuff. expensive, but the oil change is the most important maintinance besides tires/brakes.

i just use the saturn filter. a good thing i did was to buy one of those oil filter magnets which just stick to the bottom of the oil filter. it keeps metal particles in the oil filter that would go through the filter element. a good maintenance idea & a non costly one at that...

oh yeah, i forgot to say that. the saturn "OEM" filter you buy at the dealership is a repackaged FRAM.

i am also a fan of the magnet practice, i use magnet drain plugs.

well im suprized that saturn would use fram filters if there so crap... i think im just going to go with the cheepo motormaster filter, some guys were telling me that for cheep filters there quite good, and all canadian tire sells FRAM and motormaster, i might be able to get a Wix or somthing at the local autoparts store but thanks for the advice, im going to stay away form frams and saturn oem filters for good!

check out the link above, it has a basic overview of most brand name filters, and a link to a more in depth study. in short, they have the poorest manufactioring and smallest filter area. if you want to see for yourself, cut one open.

BTW: thanks guys. I've used Fram in the past, with no problems, but I have bought my last one.

I've been using Frams for years, but after all I have read, I think I will switch brands. It seems as though no one has anything positive to say about Frams.
