Air/Water Filter Mod Test

After doing the Isolator Bolt TSB twice (got old isolator bolts first time), and changing the left hand valve cover gasket (actually just took new baffle off new one and placed on old painted cover) I took off the upper intake to realize I was still getting alot of oil blowby. I researched on the net and found many people installing an air/water filter in their PCV line. I installed one to see what the hype was about and checked it after 4 days of my wifes driving around town/freeway. Im not sure how much was getting by the filter, but I found a nice puddle of dirty oil in the bottom of the filter after only 1 week. Time will tell if it has any big effect on not gumming anything up anymore. I am assuming what little it may be catching (or all for that matter) is better than sitting on top my manifold. I will keep you posted as time goes by. Has anyone else tried this with any long term good/bad results?

I forgot to take the pics until after I cleaned the filter bowl. Next time I will show you what accumulates.

Looks good. Many have done this sort of thing according to bobistheoilguy.com message boards. Where did you get the parts for this? I'm considering doing this on my '01 Windstar and '99 Taurus, just for the sake of keeping the secondary butterflies cleaner.

Wow! Great job. Very nice/neat install. Purdy engine compartment too!:iceslolan This has got to help prevent oil carry-over. The only bad thing is if it reduces PCV flow. You'd know if you were getting milky gunk on the dipstick, thru the oil filler, or hi crankcase press oil leaks, you dont have *enough* PCV going on.

I really like your setup.
I do NOT like the setups that collect the fluid....and let it drain back down into the valve cover.
I have bought most of the parts for a similar...system.......involves using a compressed air "filter" with a clear bulb (filter part removed)....and drain valve at the bottom. I plan to run a section of hose from the PCV valve....to a length of copper tubing (to condense the gases into liquid)....at a downward slope......at the bottom is where I plan to install the filter (bulb), and then run hose back up to reconnect to the PCV line.
Then....I just open the valve (engine OFF) to drain the crap out.

Well, 9 days after wife driving van to and from work at freeway speeds (80 mph here in Italy), I decided to give the mod a once over. Seems as if about 1 teaspoon of dark oil has accumulated. Is it getting ALL the blowby? Not sure. I would assume the little it is catching is helping? Any thoughts from the experts on this?

For an easy test pull the IAC valve and look down the air intake, you'll be able to see just upstream of the PCV line coming in and can tell if oil is pooling.
