Xbox 360...what the hell?

I don't know about your area but here at the Wal-Mart they have a Xbox 360 you can play and everything. I guess it's Mr. Bill trying to get some buyers right before it comes out.

The only two games you can play on there are King Kong and Call of Duty 2. They have some videos of the new Splinter Cell and some sports games.

The graphics look liked they took a normal Xbox game and just tweaked it a bit.
Sure the videos that previewed some of the games didn't look bad at all. The game play though didn't impress me at all. I was thinking the whole time, "this is it?"

The one I played the most was Call of Duty 2. I'll admit some of the background images while going through the level were very cool. When you got close though is where I had problems at.
The guys only seemed to be sharpened up a bit from an old Xbox game. They also seemed to have a little more detail to them.
So basically the graphics up close, like a soldier, just looked like jazzed up Xbox graphics. They didn't seem to jump out at me or look like the graphics of a next generation system should or anything.

I also played some of King Kong. I don't know what to think of this. They sucked some major ass here. When Kong is fighting the T-rex, the tail goes through Kong, while they grab each other there's no life to it, like squares, circles, and rectangles grabbing each other. The only stuff that seem to be good was the fur on Kong and the jungle environment.

Here's what gets me though, I play the video of the new Splinter Cell, I was blown away. The graphics were simply amazing. They were almost as good as the graphics from the MGS4 trailer. I go back to play the games though and they look like shit. What the hell?

Anway, because of this I'm seriously considering not getting a 360 unless I can look at some other games and see some serious improvements from what I saw.

So has anybody else got the chance to play one yet? I don't know if there's other places besides Wal-Mart setting them up.

Yeah, i knew about that. I actually had the chance to get one, but I dont want it. I saw it with my own eyes and touched it and everything!!! I asked my mom to get it if she could, long story, but i figured i could resale for a little more since Id be one of the few with one this early...well, a few weeks ago actually.

I wont buy an 360 until Halo 3 and Quake 4 come out, and they better be damn good games for me to do that.

Damn same thing for me.. either Xbox or Ps3.. and man its hard chosing, but I think i'll still go for Ps3, it just looks like its going to have more.. I could care less about Final Fantasy, and im waiting for RE5, MGS, and GT. Even if Xbox will have KOTOR (Which I love) and Halo, it just isnt enough because im sure KOTOR will come out for the PC, even if Halo doesnt, which kinda tips the scales more to PS for me because you can almost buy all the good games for Xbox on the PC, or atleast right now you have.

You list a few games that the 360 will have. That's all they'll have just like the xbox. In the end, Sony will have a larger and better selection.

Sure, xbox might have a few key games, they always do. But lately they're so easy you could rent the system and game and beat it in the time youre renting it for. or bum off your friends.

I've been doing some research and I've come to this conclusion.

Games: It seems the 360 will have a little more bang, bang shoot em up. The PS3 will have these too but I think the 360 will edge out just a little. The PS3 though will dominate the RPG and sports market. These aren't my kind of games though.

Performance: Both have their pros and cons. The PS3 will edge out a little but nothing really big. They're pretty even in this area.

SPACE: This is what is getting me. I want to get the 360 until I get to this point.
The PS3's blue-ray disk can hold 30-50 GB of space. The 360 isn't even using HD-DVD disc but duel layer DVDs that can only hold 10 GB. What in the hell is this all about?
Lets think about this shall we? Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out for both systems, lets just say.
What is going to look better?
If I have a good 30 GB of space I can fit a whole lot of stuff on there. If I only have 10 GB I'll have to cut down on levels, graphics, sounds, environments, play, ect.

The people making DOA4 are using the disk to it's full capacity already. What does that tell you about games coming out in a year? They'll be held back while PS3 game makers will be able to expand more and more because space won't be a problem for them. If it is that'll be a fucking awesome game if it uses 50 GB of info.

I could really care less about this actually. Haven't owned a PS1 or PS2 so I don't have many games. Besides, I buy a game system for new games, not old ones.
The only reason this interest me for the 360 is because if I get one I can sell my old Xbox and stuff and help pay for the 360.

Anyway, as I said the disk space for the games is what concerns me. It'll take 5 360 disk to equal 1 PS3 Blue-ray disk.
I know what you're thinking too about changing disk. Well damnit I want my games on 1 disk and I don't want to switch ever other level I beat.

yeah the fact alone that a Ps3 game can have 5 times the content that an Xbox360 game can have alone makes me want to buy it. 5 times, can you imagine a game that takes over a year to finish? They will be able to do that, if they could take a 2 GB disk for FFX and that would take well over 100 hours to finish, i can only imagine what they can do with 50 GBs of space.

This is what I don't want though for the 360.

Opening scene, change disk.
First level, change disk.
Opening scene second level, change disk.
Second level, change disk.

While on the PS3 you get it all on one disk.
I know, I'm lazy but I don't care. I don't want to change the damn disk.

I can't understand why M$ is using HD-DVD instead of something with more space, that is the single thing I have against the Xbox 360. IMO it looks like a total reversal of roles from this generation. This generation PS2 had all kinds of good games and dominated the market, but as time went on Xbox got good games and the technology superiority really showed. I think Xbox 360 will be dominant for a few years with a lot of good games, but PS3 will really show its tech later on.

Everything is switching to HD. it was sony dirty little plan since they control what consoles play on. xbox cant compete with that.

The price for the 360 is crazy and the PS3 will be even higher. I don't think either is worth the price they're asking.

My guess is that if it wasn't for the xbox or dreamcast, they ps would not be half as good today.

Saw an Xbox360 in EB games yesterday, some guy was playing Call of Duty, and I really never saw anything exciting either. It was a pre-release version of the Xbox, however, even though i plan on getting PS3, I think i might consider xbox360 for the sake of PGR.

After giving it some thought I'll be joining you. I've decided to not wait on the PS3.

I think I mihgt have to get the 360. I didn't want to get it at first because I was going to get the ps3, but god knows how long it will actually take the ps3 to come out.

PLUS. I haven't seen any games playing on the actual ps3 machine. The sony "hype-machine" is one of the best so don't believe everthying you see, and here. I do think the games will look better, but I'm not convinced that the difference will be substantial till' I see some solid proof.

I'm also worried about the price of the ps3, and I'm also worried about the format. If blu-ray ends up becoming top format then It will be a good thing, but if not I'll have to buy an hd-dvd player too becauase sony decided NOT to work that in. Will games still cost $50 even?

I've always been a playstation "fanboy", but I'm worried about sony being able to fully deliver. I may very well just buy a 360.

All I really want is GT5. I'll wait until it's released before buying a PS3, which will hopefully be a bit cheaper by then. Until then, I have 5 GT games (Concept included ;)), at least 5 FF games, a stack of NFS games, a couple TXR games, and several other games to play on my PS2.

Might buy a used Xbox when everyone is selling theirs off to get a 360 so I can have Forza. It's pretty fun (though not up to GT level).

It has a whole lot more going for it that you might think.
A massive history, you do remember the PS, PSone, PS2 and PS2 slimline don't you?
And a knowledge of marketing that is frightening. Sony has built itself around making average quality electronic goods then developing some of the worlds best marketing to sell them.

you have to remember that xbox isnt the #1 selling console, so for now, alot of companies are just fine tuning games coming out for ps2 for the 360. The hardware is pretty promising, so i'd give it time before we say it doesnt look next generation

Doesnt matter, I wouldnt count them out. Gamecube sucked, but i think Nintendo is getting their shit together this time around. Nintendo has shocked people in the past, just look at their history they made the best 2 consoles of all time (NES and SNES) and it seems like they're really trying to innovate with the Revolution.

I just have a feeling they're gunna surprise people with the Rev... its gunna be their comeback console.

I played our Xbox 360 today that we got on display at Target. And I have to say that the graphics on COD 2 is very BA (bad ass)! Then there was some King Kong game I played with a dinosaur, graphics kicked ass.

Overall, so far I like the system and will be getting one.

It interfere's with our other electronics, such as the xm radio's and our walkie's and a few other things. Not sure why it does this, maybe it's the wireless controller feature or something like that. But either way there is something wrong with it *atleast the system at our store* that makes it interfere with anything in range of it. Anyone else have a local walmart that refuses to turn on the 360? If so, thats why. Like I said, we may just have got a dud for a display *which still says some bad things for the new system*, or maybe it really is a problem with more than just a few system, time will tell. You've probably never played an xbox if you think it sucks. Why do you think they suck in the first place? Graphics are quite a bit better thatn the PS2. I have both and like them both, granted I don't play my PS2 anymore.

Ass for the interferance, our wal-mart in my town hasn't had any problems like that yet, and neither has ours at my Target store I work at. So far, so good.

one thing that's always bugged me is that the thing some people bang on about is quality of graphics.
granted better graphics are nice but gamaplay matters so much more.
one machine might be technically better than the next but that means nothing if the games are shit.

someone mentioned the old nintendo machines.
at the time, the sega offerings, being newer machines WERE technically better, especially with nintendo insisting with sticking to cartridges but it was the sheer quality of games like super mario world, mario kart, zelda, mystical ninja and way too many to name that make the machines special.
