My son and i just replaced the engine in a 1995 sl2, and everything was going OK untill we tried to fire it up. Now when the key is turned, NOTHING happens! ign3 fuse is good/battery good/starer was fine when we cranked the new engine on the stand. I manually placed the trans selector in park (neutral safety switch has Continuity) But again, its as if nothing is engaging(no noise) Could it be my wire placement on the starter? It's hooked up as follows: from battery to solenoid-same terminal to alt. Small purple wire on small terminal (solenoid) Please help! I'm at my wit's end! Thanks, Garry

use a test light to check for power, signal, and ground to the starter.

dont smoke your PCM while playing with that test light. It draws way to much current compared to what your pcm works with. Well on the brightside you wont have to deal with your problem here just get a new car. A saturn of course. Does it make any noises when it trys to start? What does it do? Need more info... A no start can be caused by an endless list of problems.

Get yourself a cheap VOM ($10) Work backwards from the starter. Are you getting IGN on 12v? Can you jump the solenoid and run the car?

if you get a DVOM then get one with an input impeadance of at least 10 MegaOhms. It is the standard DVOM for the automotive industry and it will always have the right range you need. I got a craftsman one at sears for 30 dollars. That doesnt mean you cant find it cheaper though.
