mass air flow sensor

could the prob described below be caused by a mass air flow sensor

Well since it has gotten cold out again my temp gauge is quitting and fans are running constant.It was fine all summer after having the same prob last winter.I have changed sending unit twice I had to change cooling fans because bearings went from running all the time.And its hard to get good heat at 0 degrres with fans running.If i pull the PCM fuse for at least 20 min it will be fine for a while.What part could react to outside temp to cause this.The antifreeze temp and thermo are fine its electrical i think?

Problem is not the maf, this needs to scanned by a pro with a bi directional scanner to see waht is triggering the fans. The sending you changed may be the wrong one, again a scan will reveal what's happening.

Its working ok now because weather is warm again.Can the scan only find the problem when the gauge is not working?

Went to dealer today.They scanned it and came up with c1016 and p0463.They said i need instrument cluster $500.but would not gaurantee that that would fix temp gauge prob.I said screw it.I'm gonna change AIR TEMP SENSOR and see what happens.

I've had the same problem. The dealer ship told me it was the thermostat. This should fix the problem you are having. I'ts a whole lot cheaper than the instrument cluster. The sensor I replaced is the coolant temp sensor and is located below the thermostat housing right where the top hose connects to the block. The sensor is on the front side of the block and I managed to use a wrench and some patience as the exhaust system runs near that and makes for limited space to work in. As for replacing the thermostat, its pretty simple. There are only a couple of bolts on top that secure it. Once you remove those the housing will come right up. The whole process isn't difficult to do and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Was it hard replacing the fans? How much did it cost?

Ya thanx macali im going to do just that b 4 i start spending $ elsewhere.

Same thing happened with my impala.....the temp sensor went bad. It was about 8 bucks for the part and about a half hour to replace....only took a half hour because i had to figure out what to take off to get to the sensor....easy fix!!
