power steering, rack and Pinion

Just replaced my rack and pinion 2 weeks ago. After replacing everything has run smooth, no problems until a day ago. While driving a chirping of the belts became manifest and got worse over a few hours. Then something let loose and power steering fluid spewed from below the van. It looks that the fluid is coming from the rack and pinion or near to it. Is it possible for the rack and pinion to seize from letting the ps fluid flow causing enough back pressure for the line to blow somewhere?? It seems that the chirping was coming from back pressure building up and then causing something to give. Is there anything else in line between the pump and the rack and pinion, actuator?? Thanks for your help!
Mike
