well duh, you wouldn't use an original in that scene would you?
throwing it around damaging it, effectively it was the same car. don't be so picky.

I just went to see Tokyo Drift on saturday....and all i have to say is its not quite as cheesy and stupid as the first 2, but its not very realistic or good either. He wrecks a really nice rx7 or something along those lines, then they pull the engine out and put it in an old mustang body and make it a "drifting" car....definatley one of the worst ideas ever...plus the main character had a hella annoying southern accent. There were a couple funny parts though...so overall like 3 outa 10

Turning an old Mustang in to a drifter is fine. People have been drifting Mustangs since the day they came out, it just wasn’t called drifting. It’s replacing the V8 with another engine was stupid.

you know the car was wrecked when they bought it and the motor came out of a wrecked skyline...nothing really stupid imo. People just cant get used to the idea of an american car finding power from a Japanese motor. i didnt like the tater-gun muffler(i like the exhaust to exit under the car on classics) but the car itself was pretty sick. Opinions are like farts though..you're only gonna like your own

I know the writers set things up so the Mustang had to use the Skyline’s engine, that what makes it so stupid. It’s clear that they knew that having an American can with a big American V8 beating Japanese cans in Japan would piss-off most of there audience so they twisted things so it would have a Japanese engine.

Just watch at the first F&F when they are looking over the salvaged Supra. Nobody says “well the engine is shot lets pull it and replace it with a small block V8”.

They say:
“Jesse(about the Supra): You know what? This will decimate all... after we put about fifteen grand or more under the hood. If we have to, overnight some parts from Japan.”

Actually, the car in the movie was a S15 Silvia. The actual Silvia came with an SR20. 2 liter 4 cylinder motor. Some people swap the Skyline GT-R motor into the Silva.

Some pictures from the cars used on the movie:

The exhaust can was fake. I put it on there because I knew it would provoke a reaction. The movie wanted to use the twin mini stock Mustang style exhaust. I fought for the can - tilted out the back. The can was never hooked up. The real exhaust dumped in front of the rear wheels.

I know they didnt have that chromed up RB in a stunt car(and I am very aware what a skyline looks like, its the most famous import car in the world after all). I'm very familiar with the RB swap in the 240s and 180s. But (IMO) a fake can hanging from any car is as ricey as a wing on a civic. But, I'll admit I liked the movie...with the exception of the first 15 minutes because a race for a chick has been done too many times and the actor with the viper was terrible...but I do have a load of respect for the poeple who took the time to put that complicated project together.

Understand this though, they were going to put some kind of exhaust tip on the car. Any exhaust tip they were going to put on was going to be non-functional. They wanted it on there so they could "shoot flames" like the 2nd movie.

Since they were going to put some kind of exhaust on there, I wanted an exhaust that would look like something someone would have had on a 180 - Silvia.

In the movie, they were taking the motor out of the Silvia and putting it in the Mustang - wouldnt it be logical to try and use the exhaust from the car too ?

I still stick by my decision to put the can on, even though most people hated it.
