my aftermarket deck was stolen on victoria day (canadian holiday) and a friend of mine gave me a factory cd deck out of a 99 integra. i wired it but im getting radio error codes. (a error 3) i dont have the manual or neither does my friend. can anyone help me?

i have a pic of the deck too

my man is an installer. i asked him. he said there is a big chance that deck has a security code (that way if it was ever stolen out of the car it would be no good to theif). if that is the case, go do to or call your local acuara with the serial number and they should be able to help.

if that doesn't work....let me know and we'll get it figured out :)

My friend was replacing all his fuses in his 94 integra which still had the stock tape deck, and when he put it back in, he got the error code. He called the dealer with the serial and they wanted $90 to give him the code.

After that run around my friend basically said forget that and bought himself a pioneer cd deck

i went to acura and told me the same thing. the previous owner has the code and without it, the deck is useless.

its pretty much useless to me since my friend has no idea what the code is, so im stuck with my good ol alpine tape deck...

fuck acura anyways, they thought i stole the deck as soon as i asked about the codes.

that really sucks that your deck was stolen dude. just so you know, people can steal the deck out of your car in about 6 seconds. I jimmy rigged mine by getting behind it and wrapping a towel around it and duct taping the towel around the deck, so you can't pull it out. I also take the faceplate EVERYWHERE with me.

i was thinking about rigging my future deck so it cant be stolen (or at least really hard)

but does wrapping the deck with a towel and duct tape make it hot?

DarkImportGrey

actually on mine it doesn't make it much warmer. Just remember, the interior of your car can get up to like 140 degrees on a really hot day, so the deck is designed to function in environments that hot, so it's ok. Plus if you are using an external amp rather than the deck's amp, then it produces a LOT less heat, because all it has to do is basically spin the CD and send the signal to the external amps.

do you know any other way i can keep theives from ripping out the deck?

could i bolt that shit in? i just want it to be harder to steal, not impossible to ever remove.

theives: eat a dick :flipa:

there is a spot where you can put a screw in the back of decks. get yourself some plumber's tape (or a backstrap of some sort) use the hole in the back of the deck to screw on the backstrap and then mount that sh*t to your car. there should be enough room for you to get your arm back there.

i'm not saying the towel and duck tape are bad (i've never done it) but from an installer's point of view....that doesn't seem like a good idea.

the trick is to slow the theif down. the more time to takes to yank your stereo the better chances you have of them just leaving it. it's not worth it (to them) to have to sit there and disconnect things....too many chances of being caught.

i'm not 100% sure (i'll have to ask) but i think there is a spot by the face plate in the front where you can also put in another screw. i know they do it at the shop on the display. i'm just not sure if it's safe to do in your car. i'll ask.

I think the screws you are talking about are there to keep the faceplate on permanently so it isn't taken at a display setup. At least that's how it is on my sony. I think it varies from brand to brand.

I have a Kenwood 9017 and the faceplate flips around when I turn off the car so it doesn't really look like I have a cd player. I could also take off the faceplate, but I just got an alarm because I was worried about someone stealing my subs and amp. You can see them right there in the hatch, so if someone didn't know I have an alarm they might smash the back window and run when it goes off. I don't really want to buy a goofy alarm sticker and put it on my car though or get an LED light, so how can I warn people that I have an alarm?

buy a goofy alarm sticker or an LED light. sorry dude, it's about all you can do.

I wouldnt mind if the sticker was small and didnt look bad, but where can I get one of those?

A friend of mine was pissed off because his deck kept getting stolen so he put hella razorblades and shit under the deck where you would have to put your arm in. Sure enough about two weeks later, he is walking out to his car to go somewhere and he sees blood all over his driveway. He looks inside the car and there was shit everywhere but the deck wasnt stolen. He spend 2 hours cleaning but when you think about it 2 hrs/ vs $200 is the way to go.

Also about the LED thing. I have an aiwa x-217 that when you take the faceplate off it has a blinking LED. It is completely fake of course, but it seems to add a measure of security

the only problem with decks like the kenwood that flip around to show a blank panel, or like the sonys that are just a black mask, is that if the theif knows anything about car stereos, he'll know that those are good decks. I'd say the number one big thing you can do to prevent your stereo from being stolen is to remove the faceplate.

I was thinking of doing the same thing after my aiwa z-117 (cheap ass one) was stolen right in front of my house (my dad took my car to store and didnt lock it upon his return, he also refused to pay for another one because he figures they would have just broken the window if it was locked) but then I decided to just get the aiwa x-217 which has everything the other one had plus detachable face, vu meter, and red/blue illumination mode. Ironically, the price on the x-217 dropped from $139 to $99 2 days after I bought it so I made the 10 mile trip again to best buy because they have a policy that says if something goes on sale, they will refund the difference. So after about a 10 min runaround (girl at return desk didnt know policy and had to call manager) I got my $40 or so refund and I was out the door.

Long story short, the faceplate comes inside with me every night and thats good enough for me. I didnt even think that I lived in a piticulary 'bad' area of Napa CA until that happened, but now im locking my car and watching my back. But it gives me some security knowing that I wasnt signaled out because about 10 / 15 stereos within a 4 block radius were also stolen.

[email protected]. then i will email it back to you as soon as i can.

How did he mount the blades? This sounds like a very promising way to scare away theives.

I live in a good part of my city, and my neighbor's truck has been broken into 4 times since january, as it has been sitting in front of his house on his driveway. I park my car in the garage, but when it is outside, the faceplate is in my pocket. Even if I am getting gas and I am going into the store to pay, that's all the time they need to take it. Ya just gotta be paranoid.

I'm not sure how he did it. But i will ask him about mounting technique and possibly about a parts list.

My car used to get broken into all the time (when I lived in a relatively nice part of town). I got a pretty good alarm system installed, and wired up an LED on each door, mounted on the plastic piece that has the mirror adjustment knob sticking out of it. It looks pretty cool, but also warns any thiefs. Now I live in a seedier part of town, but nobody's messed with my car at all...

Melt

I am kind of now thinking that I dont really live in the ghetto / shady area of town.

It was explained to me like this by a friend. Theives dont go in the ghetto to do their stealing because its the ghetto and nobody has anything. They go to the nicer areas and jack there where people are less likely to lock their cars, and more likely to have better shit to steal.

I hate fucking thieves, but nobody said they werent smart / crafty.

Melt
05-29-2002, 01:47 AM
but the razorblades are a cheaper, more effective way of fucking the theives over. Granted you may have to pay for a broken window, but you still get the satisfaction of knowing that the poor bastard is out there somewhere with a fat ass scar / bandage (possibly stiches) in his arm, all because instead of buying his own stereo he decided to be dishonorable and try to steal yours.

as far as i know, if i was a thief and i cut by several razor blades, i would most likely break his/her deck (with several kicks) out of anger...

but im not a thief...so its just a thought

thanks dude.

one thing. that anti-theft light is making me paranoid.

do you guys think that a blinking red light thats coming off a deck will make a thief attracted to my car?

or

will it deter the thief???

i hope nobody will want this deck, its a factory DECK!!!!! i was playing with the bass and treble, and believe me...i heard no difference when i put bass to the highest...

Melt
05-29-2002, 09:16 PM
I wouldnt worry about the blinking red if I were you. My aiwa x-217 has a blinking red that comes on when you take the face off and so far, nothing has happened. But I understand that the acura face probably isnt removable. But I doubt someone would jack the factory deck, because most thieves probably know that factory decks have the code and they would rather jack an aftermarket one, than deal with the dealers / acuras bullshit.

a friend of mine had an amazing 4 decks stolen. he finally found the answer: he had the keys that slide the deck out (thats how the crafty ones do it around here: keys for the major brands and look for an unlocked car) modified so that they were the only ones that would take the deck out.

side note: a store near me sells an interesting (albeit dangerous and slightly illegal) security system. its a modified version of the in-car piezo horn setup (louder, actually will cause deafness in less than .5 sec). :bloated:
