Alternator replacement a pain in the !@$

Not the alternator itself, but the stupid serpentine belt replacement. I'm going to share this with everyone....release the tension from underneath the vehicle. Don't waste your time from above.

It took me about three hours to figure it out. Take the wrench, place it over the bolt, and pull towards the front of the car, while having someone else slip the belt over the alternator for you.

It would have taken under an hour to do the job had I figured it out.

No offense, but I have never had a problem with these belts. I just pull on the belt itself to loosen it and remove it, then thread it around everything except the alternator and pull on the belt again to install it. No need to try and use a wrench for these. Using a wrench is a lot harder then just pulling on the belt.

exactly how i do it.but it can be tough for some people to pull hard enough.

I also used a long box end wrench on the idler pully bolt to swing the tensioner arm to release the belt. Not too bad but the wrench sliped off once & I almost wore it for a hat. When I later replaced the tensioner, I found a 3/8 square hole in the arm possibly put there for a 3/8 drive breaker bar. If I can remember to look for it I'll try that next time.
