Funny Noise in the Engine

There seems to be a funny noise coming from the engine bay. I believe it is the bearings on the alternator pully but a mechanic friend of mine thinks it is the timing chain rubbing on the case or something. I can't describe the sound, but I don't think there is a problem because the car only has 44,000mi and it has made the noise since the day I bought it.

Well you said friend and mechanic in the same sentence so I would go with his advice. do something about that noise. if it is the timing chain, you want it fixed. its really a bad deal if it breaks. it happened in my friends sentra. He had it at like 4000RPM when it broke. I bet it bent every Valve. He sold it for like 500 dollars after that happened. have your friend look at it.

is it a constant noise?? or does it only come on at certain times?? It wont hurt to have your time belt replaced.

A bad tension pulley bearing is a common problem.
Pull the belt off and crank it up. If it's the timing chain, you better do something about it soon. I destroyed a SL 450 engine when had a chain jump.
