After recently replacing the radiator and the "water outlet tube" on the water pump, my 98 Windstar has devloped a rough idle condition. It will run fine under normal driving conditions, but when you take your foot off the gas the idle gets rough. I have checked all the obvious, loose hoses, loose wiring - I cant see anything wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (It ran fine before this recent repair)

Is the check engine light on? If so, get the codes read to help pinpoint the problem. If not, does it always run rough at idle, hot or cold? Perhaps the Idle Air Control Valve needs to be replaced.

I had a similar problem and it was IAC motor. Paid $45 in local shop for diagnostic. I had to replace IAC ($95 from Ford dealership). My car had rough idle when on parking, as well as when stopped at stop light and etc.
Also I was adviced to check MAF.

It seems to run rougher after it is warmed up. The check engine light is not on. If I go to Autozone, will the scanners they have show anything if it is say a faulty IAC?
Thanks in advance

Was anything done to the thermostat? and if so, is it still running at the same temps? This is just a shot in the dark but, the newer fuel injected motors are a lot more tempermental to temperature changes and since the cooling system was worked on......

No, nothing was done with the thermostat but I will keep an eye on the temperature when the rough idle is occuring...... thanks
