Oil Additives-carbon cutdown and engine maintenance

I own a 97' Saturn SC1. As oil consumption skyrocketed and my gas pedal got stickier I became more concerned, this is the only car I will have for the next 2years. I have been told that Saturns are notorious for carbon buildup on rings which debilitates them causing oil to leak out from above and be burned. I have been adding Marvin's Mystery Oil for the past 6mnths now and have found that synthetic oils suck so far as oil consumption goes. However, I am wondering why.....possibly non-synthetic oils are heavier and may promote carbon buildup......which would essentially be making the overall problem worse???? Also, has Marvin's Mystery Oil worked well for anyone else so far as cutting down the amount of carbon buildup goes??? Any input would be nice. Another question I have would be, is it okay to mix Restore with Marvin's Mystery Oil, do they have any chemical reactions when combined that can prove fatal to my car??? I just added Restore yesterday......havent added MMO yet. Has anyone had any success with Restore??? It's supposed to, in a sense, wax the inside of your engine smoothing over scratches and what not. Sorry for such a long thread guys. Any advice or comments would be much appreciated. Have a great day.

im noy really a big fan of additives also how many miles are on your saturn?

The oil in my saturn gets VERY black too. Worst case of black oil I've seen in decades. It uses about 1 litre/oil change (5000 km). I've started adding "Rislone", (spelt something like that), when down half a litre, that claims to clean an engine.
i'm not a fan of additives, but these engines are supposed to be prone to a carbon build up, so I'm doing a little to try to clean it up.
I've read of that MMO. Sounds pretty mysterious to me, but it might do something. I wouldn't mix additives in the same oil change, just to be safer.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I am normally not a fan of oil additives myself however, when I hear more than 2 good comments about a particular product, and 0 put downs, than I have to try it out for myself :) The "Restore" seems to have actually worked pretty good. To me it seems like the engine runs a little better, makes less noise, you know how Saturns love to be noisy :) I will not add it more than once a year though, it reccommends every oil change but I know what happens to clogged arteries if a clot tries to pass through, bad things happen, lol. And as for the MMO I think I will just use it up then be done with it. My car has around 137,000miles on it, not too bad yet. One post mentioned oils having cocktails of chemicals already mixed in them to help clean your engine/is good for it? Does anyone have any reccommendations. I cannot use sythetic, my car drinks it as if it were a margarita. Right now I just use high mileage quaker. Also, another problem for you all to ponder. My car shakes like a plane slowing down on a runway randomly and randomly for periods of time, I just lubed up the brake pads, do you think maybe I didn't tighten the pins on the caliper enough? Would that cause this??? Those things are buggers to get off and on. I don't even know if they're called pins, lol. Today I also had my tires rotated and balanced, for free of course :). It cost a wee bit more for the check up. They ran the scanner, no codes, yay!

I have the same problem. Mine burns about a quart every 300mi. Pretty bad eh. Well I used Slick 50 oil additive and for the next 1000mi it only burned about a quarter of a quart or around that. But then it started burning more little by little. I just changed the oil and its burning it again. So when its about a quart low im going to add slick 50 again. I bought the box with the oil and gas treatments. Works pretty well man. Try it.

I am an authorized AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil and Lubricants dealer. AMSOIL sells a flush that is mainly the detergent additives that are used in their motor oils and has no kerosene. I am also a mechanic and I use this flush mixed directly into bottles of fresh 20w-50 motor oil, shake to mix it, drain the old oil, install a new filter and run the engine at 1000 rpm for 10 minutes with the flush mixture. This works great on high mileage vehicles, removing tarnish and deposits and could possibly free up stuck rings. That I have never heard. I actually haven't heard anything about it, good or bad. Is there somewhere I can read about this or those studies you saw?

A shame he doesn't write back with the reports . I'd be interested in reading them too.
