I recently bought my first sable 96 *130xxx miles* $1250. I am wondering if anybody have any suggestions for installing fog lights. Where can i find information in installing off brand fog lights (like wiring etc). Do I need to get a repair manual? if so then which one. there are a couple available in CD format on ebay and also haynes (book form).

Which is a recommended one for a totally amateur person like me(who knows how to use screw drivers and knows what electric tape is).

I dont wanna spend too much on this car to get it done by auto electrician or professional. any suggestion will be appreciated.

you don't need a shop manual to install headlights, you do however need to locate a constant 12V+ feed to power the foglights (i just used the battery) and a wire that's on whenever the car is on to control the relay (assuming the foglights you get are relay switched) (I used the remote wire from the stereo, though I initially used the positive wire leading to the headlights, but I wanted to be able to turn the foglights on without the headlights being on). The foglights will include instructions on how to wire them. I've found the best underhood grounding point to be the shock tower nut.

Good advice, although I prefer to splice into the low beam 12+ volt wire so the fog lamps work much the way factory lights do. When you switch them on, they are on when the low beams are on, and switch off when the high beams are on. You dont use high beams in fog, so they would be unnecessary. Driving lights, I would hook up to the 12+ volt wire for the auxiliary lamps that are on whenever headlights are on. Just note the difference between fog lights and driving lights. If you are hooking them up purely for aesthetic reasons, this doesn't matter.

Many libraries and schools subscribe to online databases that may contain automotive repair manuals. The databases can be accessed from home with a student I.D. number or a library card number.
autozone.com has some repair info and wiring diagrams for many cars.
