car seems to start whenever it wants

my 1998 saturn sw2 had been having some starting problems. it will turn over...but wont start. after trying to start it a few times...and then waiting about an hour it will eventually start and run fine. after it has been sitting for a while it wont start again...and i must wait and try later. sometimes it starts when it is cold...sometimes it wont...sometimes it starts after having been running for a while...sometimes it wont. I did some research and think it may be a coil problem. please help!

next time it happens pull the plug wires off the coil. check for a spark tower to tower on the coil packs during cranking, if nether tower has spark, the crankshaft position sensor may be bad.
