Had the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump replace on my sons civic today at a repair shop. Now I dont know if this is coincidence but, the car sometimes does not start immediately have to try a few times as before it started right up. Its cranking fine just doesnt start almost like theres some sorta lil funky timing problem. It doesnt happen everytime. Any ideas what they might have done or not done to cause this. Also the car is a 91 civic wagon with the 1.5 liter.

Sometimes the pgi fm relays go at strange times. If it is cranking without fuel or spark and then starting up all of the sudden it may be worth a try. When mine went I noticed that when I banged under the driver side dash, the car would almost start. changed the relay and it fired right up.

It only happens every now and then and yes the car is cranking. Like I said this never happened until the timing belt, tenisioner and water pump was changed. Wondering if the mechanic knocked something loose or something. The car runs great its just this little glitch. Is there some sort of adjustment that could have been screwed up that would maybe cause this?

I agree with Hybrid1990crx, I'd check the timing.
If the timing belt was not installed correctly the timing will be off.
Also check to make sure the rotor screw is tight, just in case.
Also does this hard start condition happen after the car has sat over night?
Perhaps the main relay is becoming dodgey?

hmm if you say that it still feels the same once its running then im thinking its not the timing. check the cap on your plugs, make sure your injectors are firing correctly and test your main relay with a dmm.

OK this is what my son is telling me if it doesnt start right up, anytime it has happened, is when he turns car off for a short time(maybe 5 or 10 minutes or less) then tries to start it. Its been sitting say for an hr or overnight, not sure of exact amount of time, it starts right up. every time
