Trans operation normal?

I just bought a 2002 SL1 and don't think the auto trans is working right. There are no fail codes and it shifts up through the gears fine. But when coasting to a stop the engine does not go down to idle like most auto trans I'm familiar with. The rpm tracks the engine speed until it down shifts then it jumps up after the shift and then tracks back down until the next downshift. Its like the torque converter is in lock-up all the time except for when its shifting. Is this normal or do I need to get this to someone to check out?

the S-series controls when the torque covertior locks a bit differently then most other cars, i do not have my write up of the tranmission's system operation with me but i beleave you are discribing normal operation.(is this decelerating with or with out the brake?)

Thanks,
Its the same operation coasting or with brake applied. I haven't tried a hard stop to see how it works though.
