Door panel help

could anyone please explain to me how to remove the door panels on a 97 sable? I can't figure it out. also could you tell me what size the door speakers are and if there are any speaker under door panels of the back doors? thanks in advance

the speakers are 6x8's, there are none in the back doors. To remove the doors, pry off the piece above the door handle and remove the screw behind it, then remove the screws along the edge of the door skin, then slowly pry the door skin away from the door.

To remove the door panles on a 97, you must remove the small speaker cover at the upper forward portion of the door. On a 97, this is done by rremoving 2 philliups scres on the upper surface. Then remove the phillips screw inside the recessed hand grip. Then remove the trim cover behind the door release lever. This is done by prying under the forward edge with a small flat blade screwdriver. Lower the window, and screw out and remove the door lock at the top of the door. Then, using a wide, flat pry tool of some sort( a screwdriver will work, but you may damage the upholstery) pry the bottom edge away from the door. Try to locate whenere the push pins securing the door to the door panel are, and try to pry near them so as to avoid breaking the tabs inside the door panle. Pry it off, taking care not to pull it too far away, be4casue after it is off the door, you have to unplug the wiring connectors from the window and door lock controls before you can completely remove it.

One thing the others left out that I thought I would add.

When you pull those door panels away from the body metal you'll find that many of them won't hold the panel in place once you try to re-install the panel.

Those are white cheap plastic, not nylon, "christmas tree" type push in "buttons". When you pull or pry them out of the hole in the metel, the cheap plastic ridges that held them in place are "smeared" or wiped out and won't hold again.

Even though those "buttons" are a cheap plastic, the replacement cost is not. I've seen them in some auto stores for over $2.50 to $3.50 each, when it probably only cost about 3 cents each to make them.

See if you can find those white "christmas tree" holders on-line for a fair price, and if you do find some, buy about ten to fifteen extra.
Also make sure you get the right ones.

Some that "look" right or "are close" don't work well at all. Various ones are too small for the hole or don't have the right fitting for the panel. The white ones for a Mercury Sable 96-99, look like a Christmas tree with two bases.

Normal vibration over the years will cause those cheap holders to lose the holding ridges and you'll suddenly have interior panels popping loose all over the place.
