I am soon to be getting a 4" cowl hood from hawks 3rd gen for my 92 RS, i am just concerned though, i have been trying to picture about just how high off the hood 4" really would be. I am worried that the actual part that sticks up 4 inches is going to be pretty damn high and get in the way of seeing wile driveing. It isnt a car for just show or something like that, it will be used in every day driveing, and im thinking this isnt really going to be good for that...
is the 4" hood really only suited for show and raceing, or can it be used with everyday driveing with no problems or anything?
I have never had a cowl hood myself in the past, but i have seen them in person, just 2" ones though, i went out with a tape measure to 4" where it would be.. and it looks pretty damn big....

Ok, well do you have any pictures of it on the car, or know where i can see some pictures of a 4" and a 2" on camaros? All i can find are pictures of the hoods, but never on the car itself, all i can do is picture what it will look like, witch is hard...

4" is big, Its gonna look like a dragster. Personally i wouldn't go above 3" and thats still kinda high. My friend has a 2" on his 1500 and it looks good.

KPot2004, is that the 2" you were talking about in that picture? That looks like what im looking for... do you haev any pictures outside of the car?
Also where did you get that hood at, or did it come with that grill for the vent or did you have to buy that seperatly? I think the hood from hawks is just bare minimum...

Kpot2004,
I found this on summit, im guessing this is the hood in the picture? Sorry i cant link it to you for some reason, just keeps comming up summit.com without the product but heres the description:
These Goodmark steel cowl induction hoods add style and performance to your ride. By increasing airflow and decreasing air temperatures, you can see instant power gains. They feature a 2 in. rise cowl scoop, fully detailed inner frames, and a welded-in screen in the scoop opening. All factory latch and hinge hardware works with these hoods, for a true bolt-on design.
Is that the hood you have? The one in the picture you posted looks like about the size im lookign for... Guessing its a 2"
Its steel though, $450 is a bit much for a steel hood... but if it comes with that screen welded in and all the other stuff it says, mabey thats why its so pricey?

yes mine is a goodmark 2", and no i didnt pay 450, i actually bought mine of ebay for about 250-80 cant really remember, came exactly like you see in the pic screen welded in and all, actually came with all the factory mounting stuff to like the place for the spring and the holes for that one metal latch piece, great hood in my opinion, made the rest of the car look more like crap though

I have one.. I used to have three hatchetmen on my car but decided to take em off because where I live in if a cop sees a hatchetman they think gangmember and I could do without being pulled over for no reason..
Btw a hatchetman is this.. http://www.geocities.com/sykatic_juggalo/hatchetman2.gif
There was this huge one on the back, bottom right of my Camaro.. one on the bottom right of my driver door and another on the center on my front windshield.. You can see em if you look at my gallery.

good choice

09-22-2005, 08:09 PM
well... it's your choice.... but personally what I really like about my 3" hood lift-off (not bolt-on) is that the top of the cowl is made at the exact same angle as the windshield glass. it makes a big difference as far as styling goes... compared to the other hoods. I bought mine from http://www.championfiberglassproducts.com/products.html for $199 and $80 shipping, the best deal I found after months of looking.

How exactly do i get the lift off hodd on, does it connect to the existing hinges or what?
Also, how did you get your speedo and everything that blue color? That would look a lot better then the orangeish i have going on right now with my blue interior and head unit color

hey instantkevin what kind of wheels do u have, those look really good.

Not sure if this is going to get answered, but instantkevin how do you put those lift off hoods on? Im confused with those metal grommet type deals, do they just screw down .. obvously, but what do they screw down into? Is it required to drill holes, can it be mounted on the pre-existing hinges, etc?

Haha.. thats funny stuff because even I dont know what type of hood he has.. his wheels though are Z06 or Vette rims I think.

no lift off hood require pins all the way around other wise it wouldnt be lift off if your bolting the shit to hinges. i donno what they pin down to, but if you look at his hood he has 4 pins.
instantkevin
09-23-2005, 04:27 PM
the lift off hood does not bolt to anything. it is held on by studs that have cotter pins thru them (ask for them at the parts store). the pins are bolted to the chassis of the car. toward the front of the engine bay there are already holes there... they just need to be drilled out a little larger. you have to drill new holes for the rear section of the hood. drill holes thru the hood... attach all hardware... sit hood on car, put cotter pins thru the hood pins to hold it on.
easier to understand after you see it. i would take a pic but my car is at the shop gettin new tires and alignment.
My wheel are 17x9.5" ZR1s (from 96-up camaro ss). gauges came from eBay... see my update post here http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=458305
