I Don't Believe In Fate..Do You..?

Hey guys, believe it or not i used to believe all things are connected...good and bad. Ever since 9/11..and seeing all the uglyness in this world, like child rapes, mothers killing there new borns, husbands killing there sons, george w bush elected as president again, war, innocents dying for no reason....it simply occured to me, what would the reason be for all of this.....for us to learn..? That is ridiculous if you think about it..

Just last night i was hanging with some friends (that are very religious btw and believe in fate) and we where just talking about shit.. Fate came up, and they where kinda shocked to here i didn't believe in it..almost like they couldn't "accept" someones beliefs..or respect it....and had to set me straight (bullshit).. They thought i was an atheist (non believer in a god)...i told them NO, i believe there IS some kind of God, that God IS responsible for making everything..including us, the stars, the universe even....but i cannot fathom how a God can write a path (fate) for everything, good and bad... One of the friends said even the horrible things happen for a reason, and he went on to explain it all....i wasn't buying that shit.

REALITY, ok this is more of a rant here....so bare with me...it might make some enraged cause you cannot accept it........ Did you ever think WE are in control of what happens on our earth.....to us..to our kids... WE fuck up, and we cannot accept our wrong-doings, like having an on going war and killing hundreds of men/woman.... Some people FUCK up, or create sin-or live bye it....then PRAISE a holy being afterwards for forgiveness...how fucked up is that.... Many people don't realize, and cannot ACCEPT the fact that we are in control of our well being...we eat shit food, don't exercise, take drugs, drink and drive, have un-protected sex.....yet when all this comes to a head, and our life gets turned upside down, we say...IT'S FATE....GOD MEANT it to happen......

Another friend said that i was a hypocrite because i said i believe Numerology is correct...that it is true, and i believe it..... HOW am i a hypocrite..? If you read up on numerology...it refers to your "way"..or being....basically a detailed horoscope so to speak....it has nothing to do with fate...or WHAT's gonna happen.....

In the end, we're here on our own...left to do right bye others, to help out.... I watched the end of this program on CNN about 9/11, those poor jumpers....all the people that got killed......it's horrible. Then they show everyone singing God Bless America...? Are you kidding me..if he could bless it, all that shit wouldn't have happened.. AND if God was in control of all these horrible acts, from 9/11 to mothers killing new born babies, rapes, child molestation, cancer..then i don't want to believe in God...

You have some good points. Me, I don't believe in God. But just because I don't believe in the almighty being doesn't mean I am not open to the possiblity. I believe in both fate and what we make our lives out to be.

Me personally, my lucky number is 5 and the most unlucky month every single year for me is October. It is human nature to try and figure out a reason, thus why I think religion was manifested but I think it still comes down to the fact that, "shit happens". Every single one of us has seen some weird shit in our time.

To me, fate seems like predestination.
If you're not sure what predestination is it's the belief that no matter what you do, it's already decided by God if you'll go to Heaven or Hell. This was big with the Puritans in colonial times.

I don't believe this and I think fate goes with it. I believe we were given a free will and with this we make our own choices. You make the choice of where you'll go and what you'll do to get there, not God.

I believe good and evil is totally subjective, so for that matter I don't believe in Heaven or Hell or a religious god (although I do believe in some sort of almighty power). I think everything just happens, and that there is a common afterlife for everyone.

How can you damn someone to a hell if its in that persons biology to do kill, rape, or steal. Some people are born in disfunctional homes which leads them to kill, rape, or steal. Not to mention EVERYONE has commited an evil and WILL commit evil acts (what we'd say was evil).

If i believe in any fate it's that all living things have a common afterlife, and thats it. As far as our life right now I think we're in control.

This brings up the paradox of an all knowing God. If we truly have free will how can God know what we are going to do?

I believe in both fate and what we make our lives out to be.

That for me cannot happen. It is a nice thought and I would like it to be.. but for me those two cannot co-exist. I mean, how can our lives be pre-determined and yet we can make what we want of it? It’s a contradiction in terms...

Don’t get me wrong man im not trying to take the piss or anything but personally, the two cant harmonize...

AND another point... has anyone ever found the root of all philosophical arguments come down to the definition of the word or phrase in question? I mean for example, "does god exist?" well it depends on what you mean god (Judaeo-Christian or the Hindu type) does he/she/it exist? It depends on what one means by existing... There are countless examples.

Just thought I'd raise the point as it always seems to get me

One other thing i didn't add... When man describes, or says he believes in a god..he is putting limits on it..HUMAN limits.

That's a good line said in the movie Solaris, Gibarian says that.. It's true, just cause we also believe in an all-mighty being, don't mean its gotta be like us. Hell it can be a 10 headed creature with an IQ of 9,000,000..lol.

Another point, selfishness. We are selfish, and it is in our own genes..we cannot change that. SO, taking away that selfishness, you will open your ideas up to more than just a "white bearded old guy"..as God. We're selfish to think God has to be JUST like us... In the end, i hope to meet God.....maybe he can arrange some way for me to go back in time and sleep with Pamela Anderson :-)

to me, the idea of fate is LAME!

You are going to do something. No matter what. You can not avoid doing SOMETHING. Whatever you ARE going to do, YES you WERE going to do it, because once it has happened you can't change it. And some call that fate. I could pick up a knife and slit my wrist right now and call it fate. But I CHOOSE not to do that. I choose to see tomorrow. I can do anything I want to do in the next ten minutes. Some call that fate. I call it time. Time is fate. You are going to live your life. But you can make decisions to change it.

But I won't say that things don't happen for a reason. I do believe that somethings naturally occur for a good reason. Its your choice to deal with it properly after the fact. Some things suck. What can we expect? A perfect world? No suffering? That would be heaven on earth. Unfortunately we aren't that fortunate.

yes you do make you own choices but i think god has the final word in relations to your choices.
