Does anyone know what the legal tinting (I think it's a %) is in Michigan? Or where I could find out?
I'm planning to tint the windows in my wives impala. The car is dark blue so I want to go as dark as possible with out being stopped. I'm thinking this will look pretty sweet. :smokin:

go to your local state police station or find the number, state not local, many local depatrments dont know what the limits are, almost anytime your ever get a ticket for tint is from a state trooper. I used to know a website that had all the states and tehre limits but I lost it, but your state police station will konw, thats who I asked.

Thanks..
I went to Michigan.gov and found the law.. Basicly there is no set number for the back glass and sides in the back. The drivers window and pass. window are only allowed to have it 4" at the top...
Thanks for the help...

in canada you have to have 20% on the drivers side and front passenger windows, and can have darker tint on the rest. i dont like how that looks, its not consistant, so i put the darkest the tint place had which was 5% all the way around. pretty much limo tinted. I have a silver Impala and It looks sweet. you can barely see in. I've been pulled over once for looking suspicious?? the cop said i was probably in voilation of highway laws but he wasnt going to address that at the time and sent me on my way. however i suspect that the cops around where i live are alot more lieniant than those from the states. make sure whatever you do dont have dark in back and light in the front. it looks dumb. if your wifes car has a dark interrior a light tint will almost have a mirrored effect to it.

How do you think it would look with just 4" done on the front sides?
I don't think I would like the two different shades either. But, I was thinking I would go as dark as I could with evrything. Then on the front sides I would do 4" or 5" down all around the top edge. Not just the top but were the glass slopes to the front too. Then do 4" or 5" on the windsheild also (maybe)... :naughty:

why just a few inches of tint on a window, why not the whole window. and not to ruin your plans, but no matter where you live its illegal to have tint on your windshield, no place will even do it for you since its illegal.

Michigan Law states that you are only allowed 4" on the Driver side window and the pass. side window in the front.... Also, think I read that you can have it 4" down on the front glass too.
BTW : I'm putting this on myself.. I have done it many times before.. They charge WAY to much to have it done... :smokin:

your allowed to have "eyebrow" tint on the windshield legally. the whole windshield being tinted would make it hard as fuck to drive at night

hi, I live in IL and I just had my impala windows tinted, I could only do the rear and back windows but I think it looks great. The only draw back is the idiots who installed the tint scratch the hell out of my car. It looks like they took a rag with some crap on it and wiped the whole car down and scratch it everywhere. They said they would pay to have it fixed, so we will see. Matt

Michigan tinting laws
The rear windows and be tinted whatever shade color or darkness you want. The front driver and passenger window, if tinted below 35 percent has to have at least 4 inches from the top of the window down.
Legally you cannot have anything lower then 35 percent on any of the windows. But this law is not enforced in michigan because of factory tinting in cars. It all comes down to a cop being able to see into your car during a traffic stop.
I tinted my front side windows with 40 percent i think and haven't had any problems. The rear and back windows are at 15 percent.
It's illegal to tint the front window of a car, one, it's kinda stupid to do, it's considered impaired vision, and your car can be impounded....seen it before....just use common sense when tinting your windows.

I think I'm going to do 20% all the way around (not the windsheild). I figure that if I get stop for having it too dark then it will be a fix-it ticket(sp). All they will have me do is take of off the front sides..
I don't know why I didn't think about this before.. Mama's (wife) father is a police officer,. I'll just ask him what I can and can't do. :smokin:

Well it could be a fix it ticket or it could be a fine, depends on the mood of the cop who pulls you over. Why make it more difficult for yourself by tinting the window until you get pulled over. Use a tint that is not so dark, makes everyone's life easier, including mine......

That was my plan, being a Michigander, 40% front, Nice and limo-tint-like in the rear. And i'll second cops rarely ever inforce tint-voilations. Its more of on add on to a traffic stop or reason to pull you over if you look suspicious.
