radiator fan operation

i have a 2001 sc2. obviously when i turn on the a/c the radiator fan comes on like it's suppposed to. what i always wondered is does the fan turn off at highway speed with the a/c on? it would save gas & wear & tear on the fan motor since the fan is not needed at high speeds.

if the A/C system is discharged or otherwise nonfuctional. the fan may not come on. the fan will turn of at higher speeds(somewhere between 40-70mph?) because with the fan on it can accuilty hinder airflow thru the radiator at higher speeds.
