My bro's STD just died out. Tried to start but engine backfired bad!!!
-spark plugs have oil on them.
-Plug wires look ok.
-Rotor,when checked was smashed to shit and was stuck to distributor!!
-Replaced cap.
-Replaced rotor. Is it ok if it's a little loose?(rotation wise)
-Faced rotor to #1 spark plug.
-Found TDC of #1 piston.
-Timing belt is brand new.
-Faced crank pulley to "UP" position.
-Tried to start. No backfire now,but it does kinda sputter!!??
I have tried to find the answer using the search bar but can't find a good answer HELP PLEASE.

The rotor screw must be tight. Rotor screw falling out is the culprit of many non-running civics.

It feels like the screw is as tight as it can get.The rotor still feels loose. this sucks. thanks though.

Yeah check for spark and fuel. If you are getting both of those check your timing.

What do the coil and ignitor look like? If I found them at a jukyard Would they be small enough to fit in my pocket?=)
Yeah I'm getting spark and fuel.
Whats the best way to set proper timing?
Thanks for the help.

If you're getting spark then you don't need a new ignitor... you can move your dizzy until it runs right or get a timing light.

I'm gonna check:
-Rotor
-spark
-fuel
-wires
-fuses
-timing
How can I check if the distributor is screwed??
Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I know that you can re-iron them. How do you go about doing that? Do I just iron all the points with just a little bit of metal? It's more than likely not the main relay, but I will go ahead and do that just in case.
Thanks.

your spark plugs have oil on them? in the cylinders or around the spark plug o rings? have you figured why it has oil on them? low and uneven compression leads to many problems ;)

The oil is around spark plug o rings. My bro is'nt too woried about his STD engine. He is gonna swap in a SI from crx. He just want's to get it running. Thanks.
