what whines under a certain speed range

2001 Impala base 46K miles.
Recently developed a kind of whining noise from the front. The whine can only be heard when the car runs in roughly 20 - 30 mph speed range (sometimes 20-25mph) .
Tried switching gear to neutral when whining, most of times the noise is still there until the car slows down a little bit.
What could make the whine?

press down your window up buttons when your windows are up.
if the whining noise does down, or completly stops, it is your fuel pump

How can this be the fuel pump when that is located at the top of the gas tank at the rear of the vehicle? Have the brake rotors checked--they may be warped or they need cleaned.

the vibrations go down the lines. you can hear it in the interior of the car, more loudly underneth the car behind the rear seats, and if you listen close enough, and move the gas lines around, you can hear it in them also.
pushing on the window buttons draws more power, which makes the fuel pump run a little slower, in turn it quits making the vibrating sound, and it is nice and quiet.

oh yea, if you do take it to the shop for the problem, they will mostlikely replace the fuel pump, and the pressure regulator.
the price was around $700, but we had it on warrenty, so we got it for free

Lots of fuel pumps are noisey due to restricted fuel filters. Also the tires can make a whining noise at low speeds if they are worn unevenly.

so my tranny is whining in the back, in the cabin, and in the engine, when i am in park?
never knew a tranny was working in park.
EDIT**
oh yea, my tranny stops working in drive when i press on the window buttons too, right? Since the sound stops.
I really hope my tires dont lock up when i put my windows up since my tranny will stop working.

when was the last time you rotated your tires??
Bought the car used a year ago, don't know when was the last rotation.
It sounds the tires are making pretty loud road noise at 40+mph. I just don't care as it's not an "internal problem". On highways, the road nosie is minimized with windows closed. But the tires/threads look good. so I'm not 100% sure.
The small annoying whine is always there at 20-30 mph. Switch to neutral, it stays for a moment. Could it be tires?
Thanks.

If only there was a high-quality way to record these whining sounds... A few of us here could easily determine what sort of whine it is just from hearing it.

Well i have a whining sound in my car....and it's my bitching all the time because my car is a pile of shit!!!!!......lol....no...i have a whining sound in mine when i take off from a stand still...and it goes away with more speed. I don't know if it's the strain in the transmission or what....but it's annoying...it's not loud...just there and annoying..going to try a tranny flush...it's been flushed every 30.000 miles..and it says after third flush...you have to replace the filter.....so i am going to try that too.....
will let you know...
