Saturn SL2 won't start-not the starter

Can anyone tell me why not to cut the purple wire and the white wire to the clutch interlock switch and splice them together. I have never known of nor heard of anyone being injured because they accidently tried to start a car in gear. This would remove that switch from the "won't start" troubleshooting. Plus in an emergency the car can be kick started in gear.

One could simply insert a jumper between the terminals going to this switch and I'm sure many have. I disagree with your emergency situation though. I have push-started my SC2 alone numerous times and I can tell you that it is impossible to push start the car without using the clutch pedal. This is because the transmission's gears are designed to not let the shifter engage them (without the clutch) unless the engine RPM is similar to what the engine RPM would be in the gear you are trying to use at the current vehicle speed. Furthermore, the starter is simply not capable of starting the engine and pushing car while the transmission is in gear unless you are on a really steep grade hill on pavement.

I have a 2001 Saturn sL2 and it will start but when I shut it back off it will not start until it has set for 15-30 minutes. the board lights come on and I replaced the battery . I do notice that sometimes but not all the time my security light comes on but if I shut it off and restart it shuts the security light off . was wondering if maybe their a problem with the security thingy and if theres a way to check ?

Probably never hear about it because there is a safty switch to prevent it.

Mine is a '99 SL1 with an intermittent starting problem. It may start fine five times in a row and then not start. When it won't start the solenoid will click however.

Have tired two other starters, installed a new battery, cleaned all the cables, and prayed.

Rock Auto lists a starter switch and a starter relay but the car wiring schematic doesn't show them.

I am missing something but I don't know what.

Any help would be most appreciated.
