1995 SC1 Manual Car 110,000 miles. Yesterday car died, jumped it but it would die after driving a distance. No lights, power, speedometer, radio NOTHING. checked battery, battery dead. replaced battery. Now have power, lights, everything but still will not start. doesn't even try to turn over, no clicking noise, nothing. Had to push start it, ran fine with all power all the way home (20 miles) but as soon as I turn it off, it wont start. Could it be the alternator? I heard something about a clutch switch???? Maybe the starter? Please help, supposed to be driving to Vegas tomorrow and I'm totally stressed now........ugh!

can you still jump start the car. If so then my money is on the Alt. If not then you need to look into clutch switch or starter.

Same thing happen on my 94 SL2 (twice) and it was the Alt. Check with a AutoZone near you to see if they will test it for free. If it is the Alt, the check with a salvage yard to get one. It is alot cheaper if you can do it yourself. Good Luck

Thanks for your reply. It won't jump start.........only push start. That was the weird thing cuz up until we put the new battery in, we could jump start it but it would lose power quickly, after new battery went in it wouldn't jump start at all. Would a clutch switch cause it to act this way? If it was the alternator, it should jump start right?

Thank you for your reply, it is very much appreciated. :) But if it's the alternator, it should jump start right? After we put the new battery in, it wouldn't jump start.........but it did push start. Any thoughts?

check the starter. frist use a test light to ensure the starter is geting battery and ignition power. if it has both, remove and bench test the starter.

The clutch switch could prevent the starter from engaging, and so would a bad solenoid. Trouble shooting with a high amperage lamp (headlight) is a good cheap start for the starter.
And it does sound like you've got a bad alternator too.
Does anyone know about Fusable Links in these cars?
Maybe 1 or 2 of these might be bad, or a corroded connection

Turns out is was the alternator and battery at the same time. We (well not me, my neighbor and friend as I'm a girl very much mechanically challenged) replaced the alternator, which was quite a big job as its located under EVERYTHING including the engine, but its been running perfect ever since. Thanks so much to those of you who replied. Oh and btw we had a blast in Vegas!! :)
