Gas has dropped to $2.52 a gallon here as of late, BUT, hold on to your lugnuts, it will get worse very quickly, I am sure ,before it gets any better. This damned hurricane, while a bigger problem for the poor souls in it's way down south, will cause gas prices to shoot up again very soon. I understand Gulf oil production as already stopped and who knows what damage will be done to oil platforms etc.

In the Chicago area, the gas price is still $2.89 for regular. I remember when our was $2.52.

Prices here in southern West Virginia are 2.59 a gallon here down from 2.69 last week. I really expect a big price jump next week after this hurricane and the damage done the the oil industry in the gulf. I would not be supprised to see at .25 - .30 cent jump in the next week. Maybe even more if the damage is really bad.

Oh, yeah, In central Minnesota Gas is an average of $2.59 a gallon, and I usually drive to my local holiday station and use a varsity gold card I bought, I can save 3 cents per gallon. Every little bit helps.

Yeah, the sig pic is too big. 272kb is way too big. You can keep the dimensions, but you need to reduce the resolution.
Just for comparision...look at GirlBear's sig pic. The dimensions are large, but the resolution is low so it is only 18kb. Her pic loads in less than a second. Your's takes over 20 seconds.

Gas jumped 9 cents this morning, rumor has it that it may go up 15-20 more by end of day. (according to local news). In our capitol, the department that takes care of ambulances and buses can't get fuel from their normal supplier at all. Now they are scrambling to figure out how to get gas locally and more important, pay for it. They have a contract, as many larger users have, to try and save money but, that is not available to them for now. Guess our county and city taxes are next to go up if this continues. Guess we are still better off than the poor devils down south. But we are all going to pay for this mess one way or the other. Most likely several ways.

The only places left are one lonesome place at $2.59 (Can't get to it unless you want to fight someone) and tow others just about as bad at $2.65 and $2.85. By the end of the day they will be either out of gas or up as well. Heard some SOB was $3.59 in another part of the state.

Looks like it's time to park the Blazer for a while. I'm going to buy a new car. I've got it narrowed to a Honda Civic (29c - 38h) or a Toyota Corola (32c - 41h). Any suggestions?

My son parked his Explorer back in June and bought a 96 BMW 318i (1.9L) that someone was selling at a very good price. At the time I thought it was a mistake as the Explorer was paid for, but now, it was a great move. If he could only sell the damn thing now! I might park mine too ( it is parked now much of the time anyway awaiting a CPI ) but I would still keep it. I live too far out in the sticks not to have a 4x4. Time to carpool more.

Many stations here in NC have ran out of gas. In Charlotte and surrounding areas people are lined up 20 to 30 cars deep waiting to get gas.

Starting to happen here, in certain areas due to people rushing out this morning to buy from anyone still under $3/gal. People hauling gas cans (like that will help) with them to stock up. Guess I should have filled up my 5 gal. can for my mower. Should be a temporary thing here, but adds to people's worry. I would imagine the further south you go, the worse it is. Reports of people fighting and making general asses of themselves at the places that HAD low price gas here during the day. When gas gets this high it makes no difference whether you drive a small car or large SUV. Tempers flare. Hopefully this will be short lived as we will soon see other stuff go up such as food. With insurance surely on its way up we don't need a whole lot more of this stuff. I now see no one here undr $3.09 per gallon.

What I don't understand is the Gas in Canada, we refine our own fuels, we get the crude to do the refining from the same palce as everyone else, how can they justify the more than 30cent a litre increase overnight if we have our own refineries. Gas is still around 14cents a gallon in venezuela.

It's all about the money, and current demand and above all - what the market will bear in the short term until someone starts asking questions. Price on the barrel here in the US has dropped slightly due to release of national reserves, yet the refineries that would process that oil have been hit by a local weather problem. (Hurricane Katarina) This seems to soak up any benefits the release of crude reserves may have brought upon us inthe US. If plants are already at full production and cannot meet demand, and then you take away the places where the crude is refined into a finished product, we still cannot meet demand. Prices soar, as a result and we start seeing "shortages" because people are piling into the gas stations still selling at a sub-$3/gallon price. Here in Arkansas we are seeing stocks of gasoline purchased at a lower price and being sold for $2.75/gallon going dry. People are lined up to get what's left of the "cheap gas", filling every available container and vehicle. When they go dry and there is not going to be a shipment of fuel anytime soon, (Especially at a more sedate wholesale price) it creates the illusion of a shortage - the pump stations selling gas at $3.07~$3.27 down the street's still going to have stock in the ground tanks - then the places that had the sub-$3 gas that restock will start selling at the $3+ price point. A viscious cycle of monkey see-monkey do...
The whole thing to me smells like fleecing. Already on the radio and TV news in the local area, terms like "Gouging" and "Artificially produced price-hikes" not to mention "Unable to resupply at a normal price point" are starting to circulate. Gasoline prices are set to very complex mathematical computer models at the wholesaler. Each station buying gas at their "predetermined" wholesale cost. Once it's pumped into the ground tank, the retailer then can sell it at cost, or wherever they feel like selling it at, but it is usually sold at what would be competitive for the area. There is no set rule or criteria for pricing of gasoline other than it must not be sold at a loss or below wholesale. That would violate U.S. Federal Law. Walmart got in trouble for this same gig - selling gasoline at a loss JUST to get a brand and honestly, bad as cat piss fuel into people's tanks. But where am I going with this line of thought?
No matter where you are in the U.S. or Canada, people see problems with rising costs of the crude, and in particular, here in the US the demand for fuel is at an all-time high without a means of processing the crude at a rate to fill demand. So this inflates the prices a bit. However, public opinion, public buying habits and the "sense" or "feeling" that there is going to be NO MORE GAS LEFT lets people that resell fuels place their market price point wherever they please. And they are going to enjoy that as people buy $3+/gallon cheap fuel in a craze because "the sky is falling". Anyone remember the artificial price spike for the day and week following 9-11? The reason behind that was again, public opinion, feelings, and the market taking what it could get; inducing more "You need gas before we go to war" hysteria that does nothing but pad the bottom lines in the individual store manager's ledgers. Food for thought. :D

The shitty thing is...those of us that drive 1000+ miles a week have to fall right in line with panic stricken sheep and get our gas before they use up the supply in town.
Gas prices have gone up four times in less than 24 hours here. There used to be a law that gas stations could only change prices after topping off the tanks. Did they get rid off the law or is it one that isn't enforced anymore? Maybe no one even remembers it..... there was recently big thing in Florida about passing a law that would require people to only use the left lane for passing, and that they must yield to the right when a vehicle approached from the rear. The law was rejected because it was deemed unfair. The thing that pisses me off is that there is already a law about it, that says people must yeild to the right if you approach from the rear and either flash your lights or blow the horn, appearently no reads the F***ing laws because if you try it, the person it front will usually hit the brakes and try to make you eat their bumper. And if a cop sees you flash your lights or blow your horn at another driver they will pull you over for aggrasive driving. I have this law printed out and keep it in my glovebox. I have had to use it twice.

Fall in line? Hehe - try getting bumped in line. Remember my diatribe a few weeks back about having my truck mildly rear-ended while standing there with the fuel nozzle in my hand? Some dried up old coot just wasn't looking where she was going and was screeching tires around a blind turn to get to the
"pump at the back" where I was parked and refueling.
Public opinion and mas-mob thinking/mentality will be the bane of the thinking, temperate minded individual no matter where you go. Just keep cool man, and don't let the sheep scare you too much. Just smile, nod and wave them on when you see 'em. Or, when the opportunity arises, KICK one *hard*, like I did. ;) Still haven't heard anything from police or insurance company on that one - I made sure to beat the hood of that coot's Honda POS good when I needed to bounce her bumper off my tow hitch. *snicker*

I am tempermental, while driving. :) There are several times while driving that I am overwelmed with the desire to inflict severe bodily harm to others. It takes every ounce of strength that I can muster to keep from emptying a gun in to their car. This is the one that I seem to be plagued with lately....... While driving in a 55, I approach a vehicle doing 45, I start to pass and the driver (either talking on a cell phone or just daydreaming) realizes that he/she is going slow and proceeds to speed up while I'm still facing oncoming traffic, attempting to pass. Not only is this stupid, but it is also illegal, every law related to passing always includes "the driver of an overtaken vehicle shall not increase the speed of his or her vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle."
Now, doesn't this person deserve to die a painful death? I think so.....:evillol:

Okay dude - you're scaring me just a little bit, that's almost borderline TMI. (Too much information) I myself am rather fond and collect firearms but dude... okay, Remember, Orage pots are decaff and there is nothing anyone could do to you in your truck that would warrant a slug between the eyes. I tend to be a rather gentle and even tempered driver, but I subscribe to a few thoughts:
1) Merge with traffic from the on-ramp with brisk, firm throttle and precise movements. I hate people that sort of just ooze into traffic and expect an entire lane of rush-hour traffic to yield to them like they have the right of way. Merge like you have a pair. Damnit.
2)The turn signal flasher is not asking for permission. I *AM* moving into the indicated lane. It's not my problem if your're going 20 MPH over the speed limit. Back off speedy - I do 5MPH OVER the speed limit to pass. Screw you, and I can't see your flashing highbeams anyway in my "tall vehicle" when you're within 10 feet of my rear bumper.
3) Parking lots are not bumper-car bowls. I will yield the right of way to traffic already moving in lanes, and will yeild to vehicles moving out of traffic in a thoroughfare into the parking lot. But once in the lot and moving along with me, please don't "Gun" the gas thinking I am going to crack the throttle to move faster than 15 MPH. And if you think I can see your blinker on the left side of your vehicle to signal you're taking a spot, wait 30 seconds after the spot is clear to move after *parking* your vehicle on my left, and then JUMP all over my ass when I take the spot after this generous 30 second wait for you to move - you have another thought coming. (Had this happen a few times in University parking lot - "Lady, you have deeper problems than I do if you think I could have seen your flasher when trying to "pass" me on the left to snake me out of a spot that *I* have a permit for - and you don't.")
4) Overtaking other vehicles (Again, thanks Blazee) should also be performed as quickly and efficiently as possible. Doing the two-lane highway drag with me is going to get your fender/bumper scratched deeply by a tow hitch when I move back into the lane. I learned to drive in New York where passing is a game of inches and considered a full-contact sport. F*cking with me ESPECIALLY when you are on a cell phone is going to get you "marked" by me.
5) Three-way stop signs: I almost got T-boned at one by a woman on a cellphone who "rolled" through the stop sign. It was a three-way stop with the traffic coming off the highway with a clear, no-stop, no-yeild causeway through an intersection. I brought my then, hulking Custom Cruiser to a halt in the intersection with the girl shouting at me through her windshield. I tapped on her glass and she rolled the window down a crack. "Lady, where I come from a stop sign means just that. STOP. Now back the car up and give me room because when I hit the gas, this tank of mine's going to lock and tear the plastic bumper off your piece of sh*t."
6) When in the right, and driving defensively - I show no mercy for those that do not stop at stops, do not yield at yields or subscribe to any thoughts of coutresy that should be common, and shared. If I catch you in the wrong on the road, it's open season as far as I am concerned. However - I will always, ALWAYS follow speed and signal signs *especially* in residential zones and will ALWAYS yield the right of way to pedstrian traffic, crossings and cyclists sharing the road. If you *screw* with me as I do so, or attempt to pass and endander the life of those outside of a vehicle; pray, PRAY, and pray to some more gods that I don't find a way to catch you out on it.
And there you have my slightly off-kilter take on dealing with traffic and others on the road. Pray you don't give me an excuse to correct bad driving habits when I am outside of my vehicle and you strike mine when you're driving like a cat with it's tail on fire in pedestrian, gas station, or parking lot areas. You will not come away from the experience without your sanity having been questioned very deeply. :D

Hehehee, yes, Blazee - put a flag up on your CB whip antenna so we can see you coming for at least 2 miles off, please? I will ready a case of beer and bear tranquilizers just for you. ;)

Amen brotha!
Another thing that pisses me off, is people that think that their bumper is there to determine the distance to the other car. I work as a test engineer for power delivery systems, I basically check the design for flaws, inspect the wiring and test all the equipment. While commisioning a power plant in Gettysburg, PA, I walked out of the Hampton Inn to my car (the Impala SS not the Blazer) only to find that some asshole used my bumper as a stopping point while enter his parking spot across from me. Needless to say.... when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered that it's condition was nowhere near as good as when he left it.

Those Mini14's are a LOT of fun to shoot.
And while we're off topic and talking about the driving habits of the majority of America...I can't stand people on the highway who think they're above using the cruise control. I don't know many people that can truely go a constant speed while talking on their cell phones and singing/dancing along to the radio, and I see that kind of stuff all the time. I'll be drivin along and pass someone, only to have them wake up and realize they were going too slow. So they of course speed up to where they think they should be, which is slightly higher than me. By this time I have moved back to the right lane and am quickly approaching another car that needs passing. But due to the slightly faster car I passed at first trying to crawl by me now on the left, I can't get around the slow car directly in front of me. After hitting the brakes and getting in line behind the first idiot...we pass the second and are in an open left lane. Of course, the guy in front is now passing everyone on the right and realizes hes now speeding. So he slows down. And I'm stuck.
That kind of group mentality really, really pisses me off. Without fail every time I drive for more than half an hour on the highway I come up on 2 cars driving together in both lanes, unconciously going the same speed. Thank God for 3+ lane highways.
Oh, nice lookin .44 too Blazee. I always felt like the handle was too small for my hand and it hurts after a few shots, but it'll demolish cans of soda pretty spectacularly...

I can totally relate to that feeling, i realized yesterday that i spend more money on gas a month than anthing else, i figure with a 4 banger i can at least save $20 on gas a week
